Fist time post, long time forum stalker...

Please talk me into or out of getting a polished cold steel espada (medium size) for edc. I know it's pricy for the quality of steel used, but I like that it is classy (like a gentleman's folder) but has a large blade that could take a beating without breaking easily (maybe?). Your feedback is welcome, as well as suggestions of other knives that you feel will serve me better with the above criteria in mind.
Thanks!

Hey, It's a unique looking knife, you like it, go for it!

What is your EDC now?

I'm mostly back and forth between a crkt m16 and benchmade mini griptilian. Both great knives, just want something a little more classy and flashy I guess.

Its cool looking for sure. I've never owned or even held a polished knife from cold steel. For that amount of money I think you could do alot more. A spyderco military maybe or even a ZT 0550. I had a g10 large espada and kind of hated it.

I have one in my EDC rotation. It's a very special knife. The tip is wickedly sharp. The knife looks and feels a lot more evil in person than in pictures and on video.

Ergonomics are great, it cuts super well, and the lockup is perfect. Don't worry about the quality of Cold Steel's AUS8A steel; they vacuum treat it and also give it a cryo treatment. It performs way out of proportion to what you would expect.

Two things to consider. Unless you're wearing slash pockets, a good bit of the handle will stick out of your pocket. The knife, while pretty lightweight for what it is, is also very thick and beefy. This is not a knife you'll want to carry with other things in your pocket, especially since the (awesomely done) 7075 aluminum scratches easily.

It's a very pretty knife that manages to be somewhat classy and "evil" at the same time. It's definitely worth having, in my opinion and I can't see myself ever getting rid of mine.

I have a Large Espada in my edc rotation, the one with the 5.5 inch blade. I kinda like it, A LOT! Do not have the medium, but want to get one just for display purposes since I also have the XL Espada. ;-)

Nice polish treatment powernoodle. Besides a large dose of elbow grease, what did you use to get that finish?

The only problem with that knife is the width when its in your pocket. Its absurdly wide for a knife of that blade length. It was enough to deter me when I first held one. On the plus, it looks seriously cool in person, the pics don't do it justice on most websites.

Have you looked at the Spyderco Gayle Bradley? That's a competitive knife with CPM M4 (non stainless HSS) with gorgeous carbon fiber handles. Like the CS Espada, its class meets kick...butt. Both are seriously tough, but the Spyderco GB has way better steel.

Thank you for the reply powernoodle. I need to get me some Mother's Mag Wheel polish, and get after it.

I carry the Medium Espada when I wear a suit. It's a great knife - and it packs a lot of performance into a relatively small knife
That super wide blade, continuously curved belly and sharp point make it a very useful folder. I can't praise it highly enough.
Plus - it looks great :)

I usually carry larger knives but when I'm wearing a suit or light dress pants, I always choose the Medium Espada. Love it

Actually, my favorite Cold Steel knife is the Black Rhino. It's too bad they discontinued that model. It sees more pocket time than any of my Espada's. Yesterday it was in my right pocket, while an Al Mar Eagle ultralight occupied my left. Same for today.

Hey CSK, whats your take please on the medium Espada G10 vs. the Talwar 4"? They seem generally comparable, though I bet there are some differences which aren't apparent until you get your hands on them. Thanks.

Medium Espada is only a 3.5 blade. The Talwar has 4.0 inches. That is the one obvious difference.
I am going to buy a Medium Espada for collection purposes only, since I have the other two.
Otherwise, I only edc 4.0 or larger. Anything less and I will usually not buy one.
