Or any knife with cerakote coating. It looks absolutely splendid, but I plan to use the knife as an all around bushcraft knife and being that I plan to hunt and process game with it, I'm a tad bit concerned with the supposed toxicity of cerakote.. I tried a Google search and couldn't find anything definitive. Some people have even tried emailing different companies and never got any replies back. Makes me wonder..

From my understanding, cerakote is used on firearms, not knives. Would that mean it's sort of an impractical or otherwise purely aesthetic feature? Does it make the knife harder and/or more durable in any way? I'd really like to get the knife, just having trouble deciding which knife (cerakote or stonewash) to pull the trigger on

I've had a few cerakoted knives and I've learned that the coating is not extremely durable. In fact the only black/dark coating I still own is DLC which is very durable. In the cooking knife world DLC is the only coating that i have seen used.

If this is a cerakote question, it will get better traction not in the SOG specific sub forum. That said, I don't think starting another thread on this subject elsewhere is a good idea, it really isn't necessary.

While I doubt you are going to eat enough cerakote to do much damage if you actually buy and use this knife for the tasks you state, it wouldn't be something I'd want on a knife for those things. On this knife, the cerakote is only there to make it look cool, up the status, and possibly eliminate light reflection if you are a low drag high speed operator. It serves no other legitimate purpose.

The pillar is not a bushcraft and/or hunting knife. Could it occasionally flex into those roles? Absolutely. Is it anywhere near the best at these roles? Not at all. Many, many better options for those tasks out there that would do much better and cost a lot less.

You've got a thread inquiring about a $400 Spyderco hawk, this $180 SOG, and a $25 schrade you claim to want as your first knife. Start with the schrade or up your budget to a Becker or Esee. Put that credit card down!

But as a tease, a little review I did on the SOG Pillar: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/sog-pillar-usa-s35vn.1652346/
