Im going to be trying some composite/stacked handles soon and I was just wondering if wax paper would be somthing sutable as a barier between the handle material and whatever I have mechanically holding everything together while it dries.

Thanks in advance,

Hodges

probably. even if it does stick, you can grind it off. it wouldn't be that big of a deal. good luck with the homemade micarta. post up the results.

You might try peel ply and release film in your layup. I use it when laying up fiberglass on high powered rocket fins if i vacuum bag them. Its awesome stuff because it absorbs any excess resin yet it doesnt stick to the material. the peel ply will give you a perfect laminate by removing the excess resin without making a mess and lots of waste that needs to be sanded off. Release film is just that its is plastic sheet that resin or epoxy wont stick to. This stuff can be bought from most boat building supply companies along with epoxy if you need it.

In my experience, non stick aluminum foil makes the best barrier/ release medium.

Paste wax is a cheap and easy mold release that can be applied to keep the resins from sticking to what it ought not.

I use wax paper all the time to catch excess epoxy that oozes out when I glue up my handle slabs and liners. Works like a charm. When epoxy is cured just peel it right off, I've never torn a single piece it comes off beautifully. I use West Systems slow cure G-Flex.

I use wax paper to wrap materials when I'm making my own mycarta. Some of the wax paper will stick to the epoxy when taking off the boards I use to press the stuff together, usually the first layer, but it's easily ground off.
