The ESEE-5... when I say that, respect should ooze from the word itself. There is no better survival knife in the world. If it has an Achilles heel, it is only that it will rust if not cared for, especially if you live in coastal regions or humid climates. Aside from that, the ESEE-5 is the nirvana of the survival knife world. The secret of the ESEE-5 has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.

The ESEE-5... you can trust.

I have many knives including Spyderco Paramilitary 2, and I'm telling you that the Cold Steel AD10 is the best of them ALL!!!

The Cold Steel Voyager in AUS10 steel is THE BEST knife you can buy for the money. I have the clip-point version, and after using this knife, I just can't say enough about how great it is. The lock is incredibly strong, no blade play whatsoever, AUS10 steel is awesome, and for the money, you just cannot beat this knife. The fit and finish is outstanding for a knife at this price. It's not that heavy either. Could you EDC it? It's doable. You could very well do that, but it's a big knife, and you may not want to do that because of its size. I can't say enough about the AUS10 steel either. It's a clear upgrade from AUS8, and it performs exceptionally well and is even more corrosive-resistant than AUS 8.

ESEE makes a great knife, no doubt about that.

I had an ESEE 5. It is a little too thick for my liking at .25". I swapped it out for an ESEE 4 tho. I was willing to sacrifice .75" in length for a little thinner stock. YMMV.

Happy New Year to you.

Oh, make sure you get the newer, more contoured handles in G10 or micarta. The original ESEE micarta handles weren't the most comfortable.

For the record, I trust my dog. Maybe no one else, but I will always trust a dog.

Jeez, not this again.....

Are you starved for attention, or just deliberately trolling with your "best money can buy" threads and now this nonsense about "You must learn its riddle. You must learn its discipline" ???

And you are wrong again with your presumptuous "There is no better survival knife in the world."

Do not confuse yourself by comparing folding knives with fixed blade knives. You are comparing apples and oranges. It is true that the Cold Steel AD-10 is the best knife that money can buy, but I should have qualified that by saying folder knife. Now, at the same time, it is significant that the best folding knife you can buy FOR THE MONEY is the Cold Steel Voyager in AUS10 steel.

That is not what this thread is about... I am talking fixed blade survival knives now, and surely your limited intellect can contemplate the difference---at least, for your sake, I sincerely hope that is the case, but I won't hold my breath.

Please tell me what is a better survival knife than the ESEE-5. I want to know. Don't stand there like an idiot rolling your eyes... offer something substantive to the discussion. I would sincerely appreciate as much.

The design is a decent user....the 1095 is a basic steel.

From a toughness standpoint, there are too many steels to list that will out perform it.

They run it at 55-57 which is soft for the steel. It does help a bit with toughness, though, though the already low edge retention of 1095 will suffer at that RC. 1095 steel is not at all a tough steel....

I use and enjoy 1095... but it is not a super steel, and I have many other superioused.... choices in a tough user....which will also Bea the 1095 in edge retention, toughness and strength.

What a piece of work you are.

Try adding some value to this forum instead of voicing your opinions (which you entitled to of course, even if they are wrong) about things, and trying to get a rise out of people.

I've had many a so-called "super steel" chip with the work that I have to perform... If I wanted a serrated knife, I would buy one.

Then maybe you should try asking questions like that in the first place, rather than condescendingly making statements such as "There is no better survival knife in the world" as if it was fact, and trying to troll reactions from everyone.

The only reaction you will get from me is another.............

I don't need to ask your opinion or anyone else's for that matter. Do you know why?

Because I already know.... All I'm trying to do is help.

Great, another troll thread. Did you not get enough attention from the last one? Post up pics of your Esee 5 please and show us how bad ass of a knife it is!

They Esee 5 sucks as a knife. It is great as a pry bar that can cut some things. That is about it. If you don't believe me, ask Esee.

This is ridiculous.
