Hello,

If you take a knife (even inside your luggages) in the Eurostar, it will be confiscated and destroyed.

Any fixed blade or locking blade (even an Unfaan!) are outlaw in the UK.

Only at the Eurostar Station of Waterloo.
They have destroyed 300 knives in the last weeks.

Solution:
The only way is to send knives by mail when you live the UK by train.

Cheers,
JM

I can't believe it. I am shocked at the level of control the Government is exercising.
Sorry to hear about that.

THere is no law in the UK against possession of any blade. They had a go at defining a combat blade and gave up .....they may yet try again.

There are however very strick laws against the carrying of weapons in the UK and that is the problem.

Further, if not carried within immediate reach such as your belt, it cannot be viewed as carrying a weapon. I have carried my previous MD Panther though UK Customs and declared it. They made a fuzz of course but I just asked if it is illegal in my checked luggage ...they said no ...... I said so what is the issue.

Be polite but be firm. They have no right to confiscate your property ...even in the UK. If they do insit on this, get a supervisor ...get his manager but don't relent.

I am not posting based on hear say ..... I travel into the UK every month and around international airports three weeks a month.

Kind regards

Aubrey

Can you imagine the types, quality, etc. of knives that have been destroyed? I wonder if all of them met the destruction pile?

Britain has no Constitution, no Bill of Rights, and no history personal freedoms.
They are subjects, not citizens. The amount
of freedom they have is dependent upon the
whims of the government.First it was guns, now lockblade knives, whats next? I'm not UK bashing, I was stationed there and love the people, but the government they elect are socialist scum.

"How do I stop this thing?"

By NO stretch of the imagination could "New Labour" be defined as socialist. The Conservatives certainly couldn't be, and they would react no differently in this situation. And any government no matter what label it sports seems to tend to restrict and not enlarge our freedoms ... but enough politics.

Locking knives are not actually illegal in the UK, as confirmed by the police to my local knife shop here. However, some police are operating as if they were. Wise words from Aubrey above.

I was just talking about Eurostar Policy.
If these last could create luggage section like in the plane...
The knives could be in the checked luggage.
Eurostar refused to do so.
The first sorry people are the policemen catch between two fires.

I have manage to have not my little Sebenza destroyed because I accepted to take the next train and to send my knife through express mail (£12.00)
I saw automtaic knives (two benchmade) and another locking knife from Spyderco going to destruction.
the Bobby told me some knives were really beautiful and it was a shame to destroy them.

I don't know more.
Now this is not a political thread just a warning thread.
Don't be stupid like me. Keep your knives at home when taking the eurostar !

Cheers,
JM

Jeez!
So does this mean we couldn't even carry a small Victorinox SAK, like the Executive model, in our pocket when traveling in Europe?
Or does this only apply to locking knives?

It's the da*n ignorant attitude of the officials. I'll bet a 10" butcher knife would make it through just fine. In it's nice little culinary box. Officials the world over don't seem to realize that a hand is a worse (and much quicker) weapon. A knife is a tool for most people.

An apologetic shadow of a once great empire. What must Wellington and Nelson think.

Oh for the days when the sun never set on the British Empire. It was a much larger world then.

Damn Cat! he keeps picking my Wegner Jr. up by the lanyard and jumping off the desk with it!

Why bother having a knife in Europe at all? You'll just cause the majority of the sheeple to faint if they see you have the moxie to carry one about your person!

Get real, or move to somewhere that freedom isn't so restricted, like St. Bartholomew's in the Carribean or something.

Sure,

Living withou your knife for a week and you could die...
Babies got also Teddy bears and you got your knife.

Europe is much bigger than a train line, dummy.
You are such ignorant !
Arrogant duck, please stay far from us.

I don't like the anti europe or anti UK I see in this thread.

I gave an information and don't forget I haven't lose my knife because I deal with the UK policemen who were ready to bend their law!
They are not robots but gentlemen who managed their best for me not to lose my knife.

Now f*** the Eurostar company who don't want to create close luggage comptment (The Eurostar/shuttle is a single line of train who is between Uk and France) not Europe !!!

Also don't forget European also are reading this forum. this the Internet not American On Line !
Wide your eyes and stop attacking Europe.
This is really sad.

I hope someone will close that thread it ASAP.
Before I come to the US make some noses bleed.
Because I am now fed up with that behavior.

Finally you will stay alone in your "beautiful" arrogant dream.

this my last post on that forum.
You all make me sick.

Lets not let this descend into a slanging match please. The politicians in the UK are a bunch of hoplophobic prats on the whole. There can be no arguement-I know as I have to put up with them.
Europe is not the same though-France, Germany and Italy have thriving cutlery industries and the citizens of these countries defend their rights on such matters quite strongly.
Oregon Duck, you are out of order with that statement. It shows an ignorance of the situation as a whole.
As far as the Benchmade auto's getting destroyed, I am not surprised. Only and idiot would carry an automatic across international boundaries. They are afterall, illegal in most countries in the western world. They have been banned in the UK since the 1950's-with prison and fines awaiting those who carry or import them!

I am really disappointed by the tone that some of these posts have presented.

Nemo came on here to provide some information to help prevent someone from possibly losing a knife.

What does he get in return? Insulting remarks about the U.K. and Europe in general.

The problem was with the conveyance, not Europeans! The train and its policies.

When I spent two weeks in Paris earlier this year, I brought a Benchmade Leopard Cub, my own Perrin La Griffe (for daily carry) as well as two knives for gifts for both Nemo and Fred Perrin.

None were seized, molested or bothered with in any way.

I left France with six or seven knives, again, no problem. I even (gasp) bought several while there!

Please folks, lighten up on the finger pointing and name calling. All you have accomplished is to insult a dear friend of mine.

JM, (Nemo), I am sorry that you have been insulted and apologize to you.

I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks and hopefully you will be treated less poorly by the personnel you meet on this side of the Atlantic, though I wouldn't necessarily count on that. At least you can count on us!

I have contributed my share of scorn on these forums for UK hoplophobia, and I was first tempted to quote a line I heard from an Irish fellow on why the sun never sets on the British Empire, but I agree that this thread, which started as useful information about knife people travelling by a certain rail line in and out of the UK, has gotten unpleasantly nationalist.

Europe is a diverse place, with diverse statutes and diverse attitudes among both the authorities and the public. And I've had some of my fellow Americans react to my Swiss Army Knife as if it was an evil weapon.

And, now that we have the useful information, I'm locking this thread, which has turned into an argument.
