Door-stop alarms?

This sort of thing is simple and very effective. BUT, in deciding to deploy this sort of security measure, keep in mind that you may need to open a door quickly and in a paniced state in an emergency such as a fire. Something which keeps others out can backfire by keeping you in.

Very true!

I recall reading about a guy that died in his own home during a fire, as he couldn't unlock the internal security gate before becoming overcome by smoke and fumes.

Thanks, gentlemen.

So, this is not something I need to glue to the floor, or drill holes in the floor for?

No, it has a rubber bottom and it relies on friction against the floor surface. It works fine if the door gives it some downward pressure, but I've found mine to simply slide on the carpet sometimes. It needs something like a series of cleats for reliable use as a doorstop on carpet.
