Drawn Quartered & Hung

I've been mulling over the idea of cutting up a knife for a while and I've spent quite a few hours looking at ways it might work then drawing and planning the final result.

I wanted a hanging mechanism that allowed the 4 knife sections to adjust in space yet at the same time to integrate visually as part of the overall concept.

The knife is orange Corian and O1 steel....pewter and ebony decorative sandwich
with a Corian bolster. The stand base is also Corian with a perspex milled top
with stainless steel hex uprights and brass details.
I used yellow monofilament to create glowing dynamic angles to link the adjusters to the heavy slabs of the knife .
It is 8 inches high and nearly 10 inches wide and the knife is 7 inches long

Influenced by Damian Hirst's suspended sharks with a hint of Liquorice Allsorts and harking back to my own Pinto Punk it's definately an Ugly Bugr... but strangely... considering it is in 4 parts it does seem to exude an overwhelming desire to be whole again.

Hope you like it ...regards from the Uk

It's interesting, to say the least. (And I mean that in a good way :))
Any chance of shots from a few different perspectives?

Hi Dan a couple more shots might give you a better idea of what is going on

All my knives are made by myself . And are really "knifesculpture" as opposed to working knives.
I am fascinated by using the knife in a "modern art" way....... Apart from a few makers generally the idea of "art knives" is so old fashioned and backward looking
using old hat "filligree" or half baked illustations of wolves heads..animals or native americans on the handle as examples...Thats as far as "art" gets in the world of Knives.....

Apart from a few forward looking makers knife making is judged by the craft and engineering not by creativity. That is because most makers are craftsmen and or engineers and not artists.

Googling the concept "knifesculpture" should show more examples.
All my knives are made traditionally and heat treated in my own forge/oven...a bit of a waste of time with this fella :)
