Holy Cow! I bought a "new" beer tonight and.... yowza!

Widmer Bros. Drop Top Amber Ale is the stuff. Smooth, cold, and rather intoxicating! I didn't ralize how many I was drinking it was so smooth! Quite the little buzz I've got going... and it snuck right up on me.  :D

Amber Ale?. . . . It's like you keep circling the wagons around the CBL keg but have yet to take the plunge!!!!

Don't make me send the girls up there to duct tape a beer bong full of CBL to your pie hole!!! ;)

Ah yes, nothing like a good Amber Ale. Last night I was drinking Murphy's Irish Amber Ale. It is soooooo good. Usually hard to find as not all areas import it into the US.:(
I have never tried CBL. I wonder if it is sold around here? I will have to check. I must give all beers a chance. Not to mention, I don't want to get Jerry pissed:D ;)
Jerry, It is OK if you send the girls up here with that Duct tape!!:D

We've got a micro brewery here in St. Louis that makes great Ale's---Schlafly. Love'em!

Alright you! That'll be enough of that CBL nonsense. That's just crazy talk! Widmer Bros. evedently makes a hefeweizen as well. since their amber is as good as it is I'm going to have to see if they know how to make a good weizen...

CBL.... Bah!

Stop IT! As I remember it CBL was standard high school fare, right behind Shafers and some other cheap and unpalettabale stuff. Any time you have to clean the barley out from between your teeth between swigs... that's bad beer.:p

Ok. My quest to find the Widmer's Hefeweizen is complete. I found it an have a glass in front of me know. Normally I would drink it directly from the bottle but, hefewiezen being what it is, I thought I ought to get a closer look at the bottle's contents up front.

My initial assessment is this...

color: good hefeweizen color
shaff and yeast: Some but not enough
taste: Not bad but is too crisp to be a true hefe. Could pass for a middle of the road kristalweizen.
potency: As yet undetermined
price: fair

Overall, it looks like weizen, tastes like a kristalweizen, and is pretty good as American versions go. Very close but it's not quite there yet.

None of you guys can talk about beer if you haven't been to liquid solutions in oregon. Two of the best beers in the world are... ( and only if you can handle real beer, and I mean it,) is.. "Hair of the dog" Either 1 Fred, or 2 Adam, yes they name their beer human names. And they are worthy. A bottle at the store, if you can find it, is about 3.30 for 12 oz. Anyone who lives near a Trader Joes look for them, you wont be dissapointed @11% alc. by vol. With an awesome finish, you can't go wrong. Another beer worth checking out is Sierra Nevada Big foot @ 9.6 % alc. This barley wine is only the champ when you can't access real beer.:D

Widmer Hefe, topped off with Guinness rocks! (I think it's called a bumblebee, similar to a black 'n' tan) If you can find any Stone brews in your neck of the woods, get them! (But they are not for the faint of heart!)

Attention all!
For he who lives in the land of BIER and is not yet a member of OINK has entered this thread.
I declare none of you peasants worthy of jugding beer! Funny colored American water, yes! But beer? For the making of this magic liquid is an art unlike any other. And the greatest of those artist still live in this country.

Hehe, that was fun! Just kidding of course! :D ;) :p
Those super strong beers sound really interesting. However, remember y'all: alcohol level is not everything (kinda like: it's not about the size of the boat, it's about the motion in the ocean).

The motion of the ocean dictates the size of my boat.
:D
And your right, I am actually ashamed of the stuff most americans call beer. Guess thats why we kick so much $$$ :D

And oh my goodness I cant believe my first beer was a bud light,:barf: they still sell this crap over here because we watch too many sports at the barrito.:D

As far as hefewiezen goes there is only one name, Paulener. I'll back up sevenedges on the Sierra Nevada Big Foot Ale though, a serious beer. Excellent!

Try St. Andrew's Ale from the Belhaven brewery in Scotland a rich Scottish ale. Also a dark (almost black) Yorkshire ale called "Old Peculiar".
These are both top of the line ales for those who are into the hard core.
