DXF File conversions Whats the cost?

Have a series of designs to convert to DXF what is the normal charge?

From what format? If they are hand drawn, it could be $300+ per hour. If they are already in some CAD format, you can probably find a converter on the web for free.

So u need cad geometry drawn from a sketch. Is the sketch dimensioned? You can find someone online to do it for about $25-$50 per hour. I can put u in touch with someone if you want.

Hi,

DXF is a very common format that any CAD program or vector programs can create. DXF is just 2D, so if you have the CAD file, it can automatically be created in the drawing module.

For hand sketches, you have to recreate the profile. Another really slick method is to scan in the drawing, bring it into a program like Illustrator, use the program to trace it and convert to a vector. You can then have a dxf, only issue with this is the lines become very segmented, if you are going to machine or I'm assuming waterjet you will get a lot of little segments. True vector conversion can use poly lines or splines, much better.

I have all the software, if you need help let me know. Thanks

Here is an example of the CAD file I made, this file is then converted for Waterjetting (waterjet requires you remove certain features and account for bean width), same source file is also used for any CNC. So the key is to make the CAD file. Unless, you just want waterjetting.

I have a lot of experience tracing hand-drawn sketches. PM me if I can assist; I would need a pdf or jpg of your design, with ONE dimension per shape.

I've done CAD for a living for almost 20 years. I can help you out or you can do it yourself. There is a free CAD program called Draftsight in which you can create DWG files (Autocad format) and you can Save As DXF & PDF. I'm actually laid off right now from my Mechanical/Structural design job, so I'd be happy to create drawings for you for a very small fee. I can also model them in Solidworks if needed or desired. I'd also barter the work for knife making supplies. If you just need it converted from one CAD format to another, I can do that free or you can get the software mentioned above & do it yourself.

I have a friend that does this kind of work for very reasonable rates.

If you would like me to send you his contact information, just send me a PM.
