Eagle Scout gift

My nephew just made Eagle Scout. My wife asked me if a gift was appropriate. That is the first question. If we do get him a gift of course my first thought was a knife. Any suggestions. He does have an SAK.

I can't recall if I got any gifts on that occasion. I think it would be appropriate. I'd go with a bushcraft knife. It will be good to use when demonstrating techniques to younger scouts. Part of an Eagle Scout's duties is education.

I got myself a buck duke eagle scout knife. If you go to the Buck website you can get one. It has the eagle emblem on the handle and has engraving options. I paid around $50 shipped for mine.

I don't recall any gifts either (then again, I didn't get gifts for graduations either), but I do think it is appropriate.

I do know that some troops/councils don't technically allow fixed blades, so I would check that before gifting him one. Then again, if he's already close to 18 and being "done" with scouting, that might not matter as much. But I do agree a good bushcraft blade would be great.

Another thought is what about a good hatchet/small forest/boys axe? Those are allowed in all areas of scouting as far as I'm aware, and will likely be held onto for a while. A wetterlings, hultafors, husquavarna, or GB might be appreciated for a long time to come.

My final idea is a good folding knife or multitool. A svord peasant with some custom scales could be memorable, as could many other folders.

And congrats to your nephew :). My oldest nephew contacted me this week for help with his second class requirements (axe/knife sharpening and use :p), so its fun to help out with this.

Contact Buck. The Eagle Scout knives are really great. My Father bought me mine with my name and the ceremony date on it and its still one of my most prized possessions. Others scouts I'm friends with feel similarly about theirs.

My troop did not allow fixed blades. If his does then I would recommend a Mora Bushcraft black. It would be a great knife for a scout.

Since he has a folder, how about a fixed blade belt knife?

A more modern take on a classic pattern.

Canadian Belt Knife with saber ground O1, textured flats, and black canvas micarta handle with bronze liners and pins.

You can also have him stamp it with dates and initials.
A special knife for a special occasion. Others will see it and know it is a custom, it will perform for him every time, and he will cherish it as a gift and an heirloom to pass down to his children eventually.

I too got an Eagle Scout Buck, when I became one; but there's so many nice fixed blades today. Hard choice, however, dollar for dollar, ES Buck is a winner. Congrats to your Nephew.

I guess, I should have said, a knife is the perfect gift.

FYI, the Buck Eagle Scout knife requires some specific details, when ordering, but I'm sure you have access to that, considering you're related. I helped my boss get one for her son several years ago, when he made Eagle. I plan on getting one for my sons when they make Eagle.

It's a beautiful knife, and the personalization will ensure it is cherished and admired for a lifetime.

Congrats to your nephew ans YES, get him a knife. Eagle Scout Buck is a fine choice as it should commemorate his accomplishment and be a keepsake.

Ditto on the Eagle Scout Buck Knife.
I was a Scoutmaster for 10 years and gave 12 of these knives to the Scouts who made Eagle.
They engrave their name, their Eagle date, the troop number and an Eagle emblem on the bolsters.
Around 50 bucks and it only takes a couple of weeks to get after you give them the details.
I am told the knife model has been discontinued for the general public and is only available to Eagle Scouts.

The Buck reco sounds awfully nice. I can't come up with anything better...for that money.
Good for your nephew.
