Is cave cooking 2 available?.
Cave Cooking 1 is my favorite in the series Followed by weapons and traps.
When eating bees or wasps do you do anything with the stingers?.
As for as grasshoppers ,crickets, roaches,Im sure you could eat them too but do you remove legs, wings first?.I suppose i would cook them up and then grind all the stuff into powder and make a soup out of it.
please give info on how to prepare bugs for me and group.I might have to eat some if ever lost, etc.

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The bee stingers will soften with cooking. The boiling will also break down the protein in them making them harmless. I usually boil them. Ron shows this on one of his tapes.

Grasshoppers: Remove the legs and wings. Always cook grasshoppers...they carry parasites. I usually just roast them but you can prepare them any way you want. Perhaps a grasshopper stew :>)

I do not eat cockroaches. I believe they carry disease and I avoid things that carry disease. However, I realize that some cultures eat them. Perhaps Ron has.

I avoid bugs that carry disease, have 8 or more legs, have bright colors, etc. This info along with 6 edible bugs that can be found around the world, can be found in my book.

When my 16 year old daughter was in 4th grade she ate a raw night crawler for a class presentation. She did a slug when 14. I don't think she'll do that again. She got good grades both times.

Hi Jeff,

We are taking orders on Cave Cooking 2 right now. We will have our first shipment of the videos in stock by next week. That will be the earliest ship date.

As far as the stinger on the bee goes - the stinger is just a modified hair and will soften with boiling. The bee's toxin is a protein that breaks down when boiled - so this should not hurt you. You can just boil them up with a little bouillon and eat them like Ron shows you how to in his video "Survival Kits"

Cocroaches, grasshoppers and crickets "can" be eaten raw. You have to be careful of parasites with these bugs, especially with cocroaches. It's best to cook them if even only over an open flame. (cocroaches in particular also taste terrible raw or live)You don't have to remove the wings. I don't remove any of the wings or legs.

If you want a book on eating insects I recommend "Entertaining with Insects". Great book.

Hope this helps. BTW - thanks for the compliment. Ron and I appreciate it.
