EDC fixed blade recommendation

Whats up everyone? I'm looking for a new EDC fixed blade. My current daily setup is a Spyderco Manix2 XL and Esee Izula. I love the Izula and it does everything I need it to do but I was never impressed with the edge. I want something bigger then the Izula and with a very fine edge. I have been looking into the Rat3, Spyderco Bill Moran drop point and Schrade F24. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any experience with the SOG Tangle?

If it doesn't have to be production, take a look at the For Sale area and look at options from makers that are here on the forums. Some of those guys make really slicey little fixed blades that are tough enough for whatever.

If you want something a little closer to production, I like the Bradford Guardian 3, but it's often out of stock due to its popularity.

The EDC threads on this forum will also give you a ton of ideas, but watch your finances (disappear).

I finally picked up my first custom a few weeks ago. It just happens to be a slicey edc fixed blade...

Sorry for the lousy cell phone pic, but it's all I can manage at the moment.

Made by Kyle Bettleyon (KWB). It's AEB-L at 62hrc by Peter's, ground to about 0.005" behind the edge at the thinnest part of the belly, and has a tapered tang so it is quite light with nice balance.

I still like my Izula a lot, but this is a little bigger and ground much thinner.

That looks exceptional. Sell it to me, please. :)

I just mentioned this in another thread a day or two ago, but in case you didn't see it...

A.G. Russell Bird and Trout. I want to pick one up but haven't gotten to it just yet. Only 1.9 ounces.

They also have a smaller Hunter Scalper and the larger Deer Hunter, iirc. Maybe not your thing, but they're fairly inexpensive and appear to be very thinly ground.

No experience but it is way over priced for a Chinese produced 9cr blade. The Schrade you mention is in the same boat as the SOG. You will not be impressed with its 8cr edge retention. There are much better options, one of which you already own in the Izula. In that price range the options would be the BK11 or BK14 (both 1095 cro-van so not really an improvement on the Izula) or step up a bit to the BK24 (D2).

A price range would be helpful to know for future recommendations.

My current EDC Fixed blade lineup includes the Esee Izula, Bradford Guardian3, BRKT Bravo Neck II, and a custom. The Custom route is a great way to go. Very good user blades can be had in the $70-$100 range. And the quality and craftsmanship just goes up from there.

Becker bk-24 D-2 steel .

Check out the Fallkniven WM1, the Spyderco Moran or the ESEE-3, either one will work great, they have for me anyway !!!!!

For me, in the group of ESEE-3, BK 11/14/24, Izula, Blackjac 155, there's not a lot of difference.

I have a BK24 but I'd prefer my Buck 113 Ranger Skinner as a "gentleman's" fixed EDC - classy looks, fits the hand well, and nice heft.

* I sent mine off to Buck for the 'spa treatment' so this Buck image will have to do
