Edc fixed blade

In addition to those you mentioned, here are some that I have personally carried on a regular basis. There are a lot of options, but I only like to recommend things that I have experience with.

ESEE: Izula, Candiru

BK&T: Bk11, Bk14, maybe BK16 for some folks

LT Wright: Patriot, Frontier First, Frontier Valley, Maverick Colt

Buck: Paklite 140

My main fixed is a wkii Sd1
If you can i suggest getting into a store and checking out the one you'll get before buying
I have 3
2 are great
One, the most recently made one, is a complete brick that needs a full regrind to be useable

Hello TBS, I too have been thinking of switching to little bit larger (i.e. a bit longer four finger handle) EDC (small'ish) Fixed Blade. The Guardian 3 looks veery nice however, I find it rather pricey. That being said, while I don't know about the Gerber Principle reputation, I do like it's looks and it's OAL (for my needs). Ooh, it's also not too expensive! I would however want a better (horizontal) Belt sheath.

Suggest looking at Ruike Hornet
under 4 oz, thin for edc
14c28n steel is highly underrated. Great toughness and corrosion resistance and not bad edge retention. Easy to sharpen

And price is $47 right now at BladeHQ, $54 at Amazon

Fixed blades are awesome for edc! So many great choices out there with many already mentioned.
Have you looked at David Mary’s edc blades? Really nice and he is great to deal with.
A CPK DEK2 is one I hope to get soon.
Bob Dozier makes some great edc style fixed blades: I carry a slim outdoorsman and Prof Guides knife frequently.
Not to stir a hornet’s nest but the Bark River Cub is a great size, shape with fantastic handle.
White River sendero looks great.

Lorien has a Kabuki with beautiful custom sheath listed under ‘fixed blades’ which I would snatch up if I had’t bought too many lately. Really beautifully designed knife.

My daily carry fixed blade about 95% of the time is a Carothers "CPK" EDC2, but they can be tough to find.

Another of my favorites is a Winkler/Knight colab Jaeger Knife, again it's no longer in production and is hard to find.

The Winkler SD1 or SD2 I actually prefer the SD2 are great for discreet carry. A White River Backpacker Pro or Model One as it's refered to sometimes has very good ergos for such a small knife.

A maker on here Malanika makes a nice EDC that I rather enjoy and I believe he takes orders for these. Robert Erickson is another maker on here that is great to work with and I really enjoy using the knives he has made for me. And also Dave Ferry aka Horsewright is his forum nic makes some wonderful choices you might want to check out.

Sheaths are important. I don't carry a knife literally every day for long periods, so I prefer a sheath with a belt clip that I can put on and take off my belt without having to take the belt almost off my pants. I have to open carry in Florida, so I don't know about IWB sheaths.

I agree that the Bradford Guardian 3 makes an excellent EDC, especially in Magnacut, but the belt loop on their leather sheath is way to tight for my belt, and the kydex sheath rides too high on my belt (the knife flops) and does not allow a good grip on the handle when I push with my thumb. I have ordered an Armatus sheath. In the meantime, I found a $20 leather sheath on Amazon that works.

I also agree that the Ruike Hornet is a great knife at a great price, and the sheath allows you to carry the knife vertically, horizontally, or canted.

I sometimes carry an ESEE Xancudo in S35VN, which is another excellent EDC. Out of the box, the knife was extremely hard to draw from the sheath, but after I shaved down the nub that was too high inside the sheath, the sheath is excellent.

I often carry a White River Backpacker Pro as a neck knife. It has a good sheath and a good handle for a small knife.

I agree about having a full grip.
It makes a world of difference in use

I have not read much of this thread, just scrolled through the pictures, but what I am getting is that the OP is looking for something like a "Neck-Knife" or some other type of concealable little knife. Please correct me if I got that wrong. Some examples shown here look to be about as effective as a box cutter. Ok, that is an exaggeration.

I cannot imagine myself belting on a fixed blade everyday unless I was working on a ranch, a farm, or as a game guide . . .maybe fishing. In fact, the last time I did, I had been invited to trap alligators in South Louisiana for two weeks back in 1991.

If I am concerned that I will have to defend myself with a knife, my strategy is to not go there or do that. My around town EDC today is a Leatherman Wave.

Another, perhaps randome, thought: If a fixed blade knife is used in self-defense, however justified, the likelyhood that you will ever get it back is probably pretty low.

Many of the knives shown look to be really nice looking. Are you willing to lose that knife? Why not something as effective, but more utilitarian and common looking . . .. something you can drop on the ground and walk away from?

OP said something about being in Texas, and carrying iwb, so I don't think there are too many legal restrictions in play, here.

We've talked about SD knives so many times, and one of the more practical suggestions was an insulation knife.

It does the things, you can justify it by saying you carry it in your toolbox, it's got a comfortable handle, and you're not losing much if it's kept as evidence.

Of the three brought up at the top, I would say the Guardian or the RMJ are the most practical blade shapes for everyday, and the Bradford is the choice if you're worried about what the gentle people will think, what with the Utsidihi having a more "high speed" design language, in spite of the fact that it was inspired by flint-knapped knives.

Definitely go with a four finger grip, adds so much more comfort and usability to handle the blade. The only ones I have actually handled is an LTW or Battlehorse Frontier Valley, just right size. One that is smaller but not too bad is an
Enzo/Brisa necker. But my favorites are my JK bird and trouts and a Red meadow cowbell, but they run a little higher. The JK in the pic is a Riverwoods companion.

I also find a good GL Drew small Sized knife once and awhile. One has a leaf shaped blade and good micarta handle.B9FE2BDE-481B-4B70-83C5-1E0E8021374C.jpeg

I own all three, and the Utsidihi would be my top choice. The Utsidihi is a bit bigger than the G3 or the SD1, and I prefer that it has a little more usable blade and handle. I have the kydex sheath that it comes with set up with a DCC clip for IWB carry, and RMJ also makes a pretty sweet leather belt sheath.
