What are some of the items that you all carry for EDC in your car or vehicle? Any particular reasons? And how do you carry/holster/keep them?

Presently I carry:
ASP Baton under my seat - for trouble outside of the car
Surefire E2D in a middle compartment - for looking around the car for lost things or in the hood or trunk, also for potential in-car altercations requiring close-range impact
Spyderco Matriarch in the same middle compartment - close range lethal response both in and out of the car

Fox pepper spray
Gerber Gator
Victorinox Swiss Champ
flashlight

Plain Sebenza....

You don't have to worry that the hot summer sun heating up your car too much to warp or split the handle material.

kee :)

Fox pepper spray on keychain.
Ryan Plan B rigged nicely on my shifter column.
Aluminum tee-ball bat just in case (compact, fast, and solid) :D

Any problems with summertime heat in the car & a can of pepper spray?

I got OC on my keychain, but would keep a bigger can in the car if it's safe to do so.

The show "Mythbusters" just covered this on their show. They determined it would take temperatures in excess of 350 degrees to cause an aerosol can to pop, well over the temps reached in a car.

I originally had a concern about the heat and what that would do to this can of pepper spray which I believe is 3 to 4 ounces. We have had several pretty hot days here in my part of Southern California (over 100 at times) and I have seen no indication of leakage or any affect whatsoever on the can.

However, I keep it in my center console out of direct sunlight and I usually keep my windows slightly cracked open on my vehicle. If I lived in a place like the valley or the desert areas where the temps are constantly above 100, I would probably not keep this in my car.

ASP Baton
Leatherman PST
Maglite 2 C cells

Never put too many "goodies" in my car anyways. :) For car gear, my policy is to always choose the ones that are easily replaceable and not expensive. All other valuable gadgets I always prefer to carry them on person.

As I have often pointed out, in an accident (even just a sudden hard stop), loose items in the passenger compartment of you car can become projectiles.

In a roll-over accident, they can end up flying all around you.

The forces involved in a car accident can be quite extreme. Expect all compartments, center console, glove box, etc., to come open and spill their contents into the air around you. And don't expect velcro, suction cups, or double-sided foam tape to hold. In many cars, the rear view mirror is glued to the windshield; expect the windshield to break or the glue to fail and anything dangling and the mirror itself and anything that was dangling from it to now be flying around your head. Expect briefcases, etc. to open and spill their contents into the air around you (mine did). And expect folding knives to unfold.

In my bad accident, the CQC7 that was folded and in the glove box ended up stabbed into the back seat.

I know, you think you're a good driver. But you may not be the one that causes the accident.

As a general rule, if you wouldn't want to be hit in the head with something, either bolt it down properly or put it in the trunk.

I live on a farm, I drive around in a truck, there is all sorts of stuff floating around in there all over the place. Knives, ropes, tools, rags, pump parts, assorted crap .... actually I'm not really sure what's in there.

Gollnick, you would not want to travel anywhere in my vehicle, any accident and you're going to be imbedded with more crap than you could imagine. :)

I was waiting for you to chime in, although I agree with you,(I've been in a rollover accident and anything not bolted down does become a projectile) people will choose to EDC something in their car, I still do although I have gone to a lighter = less mass, securely locking less chance for contact with a pointy end, I carry a Blackie Collins Joggin' Buddy with a Thumbolt release locking sheath.

People will do what they want, but it's still good to hear the possible consequences of their actions.

Thanks Gollnick

BTW it won't be the knives in the car that get me, it'll be the 300 lbs of other junk flyin' around.

Mag 3c

I should probably stop procrastinating and throw away that box of broken glass in the backseat.
No no, don't do that. Who knows when you might need a box of broken glass!

Put the box of glass on Ebay....people there will buy anything....start at .99 and no reserve

Gollnick makes a good point, but regardless I carry the following inside the truck:

SRKW Camp Trap - In its sheath of course.
Small flashlight
Multi-tool in a sheath
Marlin 1895 .44 Mag rifle (short version)
sleeping bag

In the tool box on the back of the truck I carry:

A complete tool bag, an Estwing camp axe, bungees, winter survival gear, including pack boots, mittens, extra jacket and so on.

You never know what you might run into (literally) driving Alaska's roads, and it pays to be prepared to be stuck on the hiway in a snow storm.

Im in high school and I edc a SOF flash II. I cant have knife with me in school so it normally rides in center console of my truck. I take it with me all the time during the weekend and whenever i can during the week. SO most of the week it ride in console.

also not sure where it came from but one of those cold steel stabbing thing but made of plastic is in my top sun visor. i probablyh should remove that incase i crash it wond go through my forehead.
