Egg/hen - The PPT or the Bastinelli Dragotac Compact?

....which came first and whats the background to the Dragotac - does anybody know?

For the record; I like them both. The PPT is an absolute favorite of mine and I have a slew (okay, so I only have two because two is one, one is none).

Its just such a beautiful and substantial knife and man oh man, those lines and the deep carry clip.

I dont have the Bastinelli Dragotac Compact and dont know about the quality. The Dragotac has some of the same lines as the PPT but is a tad longer in the blade than the PPT. Coincidence or collab or something third ... ?

The 'full size' Dragotac is absurd IMO - but the Compact doesnt look too shabby. Small wonder with those lines similar to the PPT.

Anyway, I dont see the Dragotac as a competitor to the PPT and Ill take the PPT over the Dragotac Compact any day of the week and twice on Sunday, as the size, heft and quality of the PPT suits me to a T - I just wondered, if anybody knows about it, THX.

Bastinelli Dragotac Compact

The Bastinelli designs are actually well made. I think Fox in italy makes them. They may also make some of the italian spydercos.

Yes, Fox makes some quality knives and there has been some nice Spyderco knives made by them in Maniago (the Volpe being one of them IIRC).

Have no idea when the Dragotac first appeared, so can't say which came first. Know Spyderco brought out the PPT in 2010, so it was probably designed at least a year earlier. Also know that lots of knives look something like one another and that both of these bear at least a passing resemblance to several Jens Anso designs.
