Elbow pain after lifting last night...

Last night I was lifting, same as I do 2 or 3 times a week before bed. Anyways, I was benchpressing and I kept hearing a small crack coming from my left side, kind of like when you crack your knuckle, but of course I didn't stop. This morning I woke up and my left elbow is really sore and when I bend my arm up at the elbow I can only make it like half way before I have to stop. I was wondering if this is normal or what? Should I just take some tylenol and rest it for a couple days? I don't like doctors so that option is out.

Edit This is also in the arm I broke years ago, but it was my radius and ulna, not near my elbow. I stretch a little, but probably not enough, maybe that's it?

I'm not doctor but sometimes i do get pains in the elbow. It depends on which part it is. Inner elbow and it's a golfer's elbow. Outer and it's a tennis elbow.

When i got my golfer's elbow the doctor said you can either take pills or a steroid shot. Since i needed to travel soon, steroid it was. Almost instant relief although i had to stop using that arm for a couple of weeks. No heavy lifting.

It's on the outside of my elbow, from my elbow down about 2 inches. So I guess it's tennis elbow. I'll call my doctor and see if a shot will help. This has happened before but I thought I just over did it, but this time I know I didn't so... Yep.

Thanks man!

Read Arnies (you know who) first book about bodybuilding. He really pushed the limits, he did some stupid stuff, but he kept detailed notes. He really pushed his body, nowhere near what the body builders of today do, but for you, his book should help out. Be careful, first falling on shivs, then busting your bones up. Take care of yourself man!

Is it "The Education of a Bodybuilder"? If so I see some on eBay and Amazon pretty cheap. Yeah I really need to calm down and lock myself in a padded room for a few days. Seems like as soon as one injury heals I screw up and there's another.

You're saying Arnold's better than Ronnie Coleman???

I am not a Doctor but my guess is that the noises your heard and the pain you explain is a bout with Tendonitis!!!

I get that pain too inside my elbow from too much lifting , or lifting the wrong way , I think it's a tendon , day or two and it goes away.
Lesson learned when lifting , if it feels un-natural , stop doing it.

One other thing you may want to try: if you are, indeed, having tendonitis flare-ups, do some forearm exercises. That is, if you don't, already. I get elbow pain if I am working my upper arms without working my lower arms. Forearm curls and reverse forearm curls help put even pressure/tension on the tendons in the elbows, evening out the pull that stronger biceps and triceps exert. This has been my experience.
Finally, don't lock-out your elbows during reps (at the top of reps) in bench press, or any pressing movement. Thiis puts some bad strain on the joint. It may mean you have to use a slightly lower weight, but it also means that the muscle is doing the work it should and not getting mini-breaks in between sets. Good luck :)

I've had better luck doing butterflys with some dumbells than benching, for exactly the problem you are having.

I do the butterflys, then tri's and dont have the problem anymore.

Good luck
Ben

I'd definitely have it checked out.

I don't know how you can lift weights right before bed. If I lift weights, I get all hyped up like I smoked a big crack rock(not that I know what that's like, but you get the point, hopefully), and sleep is not gonna happen.

Put's me right to sleep for some reason. I guess I'm weird.

I can move it better today, but I just got a new bicycle so that isn't helping much. I think tomorrow will be my lazy sit inside eat cookies watch talk shows day. I'll call the doctor maybe Wednesday if it still feels like somebody has a vice grip on my elbow.
