Electric Pressure Washers

I have been using a Sears ~2000 psi gasoline pressure washer for 5 years or so now and have been very pleased as it is small and I can lift it easily into my vehicle to take to jobs.

I am seeking opinions on electric pressure washers. I had one that I believe ran about $100-$125 and used it on a couple indoor jobs were the exhaust from the gasoline pressure washer would be a problem. It broke and basically determined that the heat cracked the water pump (plastic). I read that this is the big weakness of electric pressure washers. This one lasted 4-5 jobs where the use was pretty intensive for about a day each time. Not worth fixing in my opinion. But it does add to the cost of doing work and certainly the failure suggests that I could find myself with a broke pressure washer in the middle of a job out of town.

Ordered a new one today from Hammacher Schlemmer that is more powerful and appears to be better built. The deciding factor was the lifetime guarantee. We'll see? http://www.hammacher.com/Product/Default.aspx?sku=84353&refsku=10464&xsp=2&promo=xsells

I'm interested if you know anything about these particular pressure washers or what your experience has been in general with electric pressure washers?

Bought one from costco years ago, works well. powerful enough for a serious homeowner and i suspect light industrial use. it is around 2k psi.

with costco you essentially have a lifetime warranty

I took a look online at Costco and Sam's Club electric pressure washers. My thought with regards to "essentially have a lifetime warranty" statement..... so you would actually try to take back a pressure washer to Costco that is 3 years old? I think that's kind of crazy. My experience is that these stores divert to the manufacturer's warranty and that any replacement happens with generally first use. Few people buy one to just sit in their garage. They have an immediate use in mind with the purchase.

Noticed at another web site what appears to be the same pressure washer I ordered only with the brand stated. Probably a marketing thing for the firm that I purchased from. Remember the old Herter's catalogs.... everything was the best and the greatest. I loved those things and have bought old copies on flea bay for the humor.

I'd have tried to replace the cracked (plastic) water pump. Even if it's not a Craftsman you could probably get the part/parts you need from Sears. They sell replacement parts for most equipment. You may or may not be surprised how many of the parts interchange from one brand to another.

I already tossed the last one in the trash. I should have my new one on Tuesday. The water pump ran about $48 to replace (part). Not worth it to me.

I bought one from Costco last month to clean up my patio and was very disappointed with the results. To actually clean off the grime I had to hold the nozzle within an inch of the surface and slowly trace a one inch thick line up and down. I returned it for a refund no questions asked.
