Electric Razor for Teenage Son

My Son arrived home from college looking pretty scruffy. I'd like to get him an electric razor for convenience. He does not need to shave every day, but maybe once or twice a week. I'd also like it cheap, since he won't use it every day and may not like electrics anyways.

I've used regular old blade razors my whole life so I don't know anything about electrics except I bought a cheap "Shave Man" razor for less than $10 that I use on vacation and it doesn't work very well (but well enough for acceptable vacation stubble).

Thanks.

remington makes a good cheapish face trimming set for sale at wal-mart. mine lasted me 2.5 years at least. it doesnt get a completely smooth shave as its just a trimmer but will give a very light 5 o'clock shadow look if thats ok. i hate the ones that "shave" as i find they generally pull your hair out rather than cut it. why cant he use a regular razor? only shaving twice a week, a pack oughta last quite a while.

I'm a DE kinda of guy myself, but I keep a cheap Remington around just in case. I prefer Remingtons and look for closeouts and/or discontinued models. I don't think I've paid more then $30 or so for one. Considering the price of replacement blades, but to buy a new razor every few years.

Why can't a teenager do anything you tell him to? I've been trying to get him to shave with a razor for a year or so, but he won't.

On the other hand, he got straight A's his first semester in college, so I'm in a pretty forgiving mood right now :)

girlfriends are the cure for not shaving, I'm 24 and when my girlfriend is away, my razor usually gets ignored, and I like shaving.

Panasonic electric shaver has been the best so far. I've tried other shaver brands and razors but none comes even close.

rotary, not screen type -- that said, cheap cordless Remington is not a bad way to go, I used to shave 6 mo out of the year until shortly after getting married and being informed "grow it back" on that first All Saint's Day as a married man. (shaved on Halloween...)

EVERY electric I've ever owned has givin horrible performance---Norelco--Panasonic etc...------get him a quality handle--several pkgs of refills--and some shaving cream.

i have never had much luck with electrics myself, and i have tried some that were quite expensive, the best i used was a braun and it didnt really work too well.

Braun (cordless) razors suck! I have 4 of 'em, and NONE of 'em will hold a charge long-enough to get a good shave with anymore...And the one of those 4 that does work almost "ok" (my newest one) doesn't give me a very close shave.

Braun.:thumbdn:.:thumbdn:.

I'd go with Remington or Panasonic.

I've had very good luck with Norelcos, my first one (high school grad gift) lasted 10 years! They don't make them like that anymore, but I will say that when I tried to save a few bucks and get a Remington I returned it- pulled hairs and gave a really bad shave.

I say give him a Norelco, he'll be more likely to use it.

Another nod for Norelco. I'm 43 and have only gone thru 3 Norelco's since I was a young man. They last for me. Just send it in for a new battery pack when it will no longer charge up.

Sounds like he just doesn't like to shave, for me shaving has been a way of life since I was about a junior in high school. If it wasn't for the military I probably would have a full beard or least a goatee. I have very thick hair and electrics have never worked for me. I like the regular old razor blades, I am using the one that has 4 blades in the front and a single trimmimg blade on the back. I do have a mustache, but I need to keep it neatly trimmed so I use a norelco trimmer that has like 9 settings and it has a vacuum to suck up all the trimmings as I trim. Maybe that would be a better option, he can keep it short until he can grow decent beard. Mine cost around $50 at wally world and it is worth every penny.

I hated to shave until I started wetshaving (DE, but mainly straight).

My remington electric razor havn't seen my face in years.

The milf got me a new Remington for Christmas, and it pulls hair too

another option would be regular barbers clippers, then at least he would look trimmed, and they are always useful.

Electrics never worked for me because I always ended up getting in grown hairs.

You may want to consider a wet/dry one that he can use in the shower. Hot water always helped open the pores and gave me a better shave with ess irritation.
