Hi all,

I owe a thank you gift to an EMT from a foreign land, he does not have a duty knife (knives aren't a big thing in Ireland I guess - he states no EMTs carry one). I am seeking suggestions for a decent EMT EDC duty knife???

Thanks in advance...

Max

I've been working ems in NYC for quite a bit...I've used a leatherman wave everyday...it's handy and sheeple friendly.

In my many years working as an EMT I used a Smith and Wesson 1st Response Rescue Knife. I never had occasion to use the window smashing feature, but did need to cut the seat belt of a seriously injured driver. That blade is wicked sharp and cuts the belt material like butter. Stores in some states have restrictions on buying that particular knife, allowing only authorized personel to purchase it.

I am in EMS, any knife with a clip will do. The most popular, and best IMO are either a spydie delica, or rescue. I carry a rescue.

I am loving that blade tec TTD posted though. Swweeet find tony!

what is your price range? Most of what I've seen being used are multi-tools. The leatherman wave is nice because you can open the blade with one hand but still have all the extra tools on the inside. Having the extra tools can be a huge plus.

While I am not an EMT, I do carry a SAK Fireman. Doesnt have any kind of a tactical look to it, and has the beltcutter blade.. I like it better then the rescue tool. In my CERT bag I have the SAK fireman and a Victorinox Spirit MultiTool, both a excellent duty knives.

:)

Rock,

That Spyderco was the exact knife I was thinking of.

If you have your eyes on a SAK by the way - remember a member of this board can put a clip on it.

I don't know if Irelands knife laws are as bad as Englands but they may stink. I saw over at BCUK folks tlking about it and a lockblade is illegal and a blade over 2 or 21/2 inches may be illegal too. So you may want to check in to it. Pat

This thread has nothing to do with Wilderness & Survival. Moving to the General Discussion Forum.

Spyderco rescue assist or the Swiss Army Rescue Tool.

i have both and they are top notch qaulity and they work. The SAK Rescue tool is more sheeple-moron friendly, has a glass breaker and glass saw (works on wired glass too), screwdriver/prytool, safe seatbelt /clothing cutter, pointy blade, neon scales (glow in dark), phillips screw driver .

the Rescue assist has the one blade, rounded sheeps foot style, wicked sharp, whistle, and carbide glass breaker (it works)

1st Responders, SAR, Police, Fire etc are normally exempt from that rule.

When I was in EMS I carried a Swisschamp, BUT if I had to do it over, I would get a model that had one hand opening of the main blade.
