Im considering buying an ENO hammock to use in afghanistan, I saw a guy string one between two hescos and thought it was an excellent idea. Anyone here have any experience with ENO hammocks, what about hennessy hammocks?

I have owned both for years and am now a dealer for both, so I probably know more than I should about them.

I would recommend ENO for casual hiking, backyard, deck, etc. kind of lounging. I personally do not find the design comfortable enough to sleep in overnight, but it is fantastic for quick naps or getting off the ground during a hiking rest break. They are super easy and fast to set up and are hard to beat for a backyard hammock.

If you plan on overnighting in the hammock, go with a Hennessy or similar asym hammock. You can lay a lot flatter and can even incorporate a sleeping pad to make sleeping more comfortable.

I sleep in mine overnight (camping and such) and it seems fine to me. Sleeping in it again tonight - heh. I'd get the doublenest if it were me - more room == more comfort. All you need to get a flat lay in your ENO is the correct sag and a diagonal lay - you'll be fine for a fraction of the cost.

love mine and get better sleep than in the bed. for warmth i slide my sleeping bag around the whole hammock like a tube and wear a hat. works well so far. for my use the slap straps were a waste of money. i could have more versatility by hanging with ropes

A properly hung ENO Doublenest can be every bit as comfortable as a hennessey hammock. You lay on the diagonal the same way you do in a HH, and get just as flat. There's also nothing keeping you from using a sleeping pad in an ENO, and in fact it's easier since you don't have to screw around with the bottom entry (this is the main reason Hennessey recently released the side zip option.)

The only downsides with ENO hammocks are that they don't have integrated ridgelines to help you get the same amount of sag every time you hang them (easy fix) and that they don't include an integrated bug net (but an external one is available for sale).

For hanging in the desert, I would actually recommend a hammock without integrated bug netting - you can use chemical repellants like permethrin if bugs are an issue, and hammocks without netting will be much cooler. Just learn to hang your hammock properly with an appropriate amount of sag, and get the larger Doublenest so you can lay on a deeper diagonal and get flatter, and you will be every bit as comfortable as you would be in the more expensive ones with built-in netting.

I much prefer a top-loading hammock (i.e. not a Hennessy). I think Tom Claytor's Expedition Hammock is my favorite commercially made hammock.

I like them 'cause they're easy to get into and out of, easy to rearrange padding and bedding in, are designed to take a closed-cell foam pad, and can be flipped over (netting down) for daytime lounging.

I've never had a problem with mine, I usually pack it and if it doesn't get hung I just use it as a pillow. It squishes into a pouch about the size of your fist, great piece of kit. Also doubles as a light tarp in a pinch, for covering gear in a rainstorm etc.

Well folks i went with the pronest in tan and a gaurdian mosquito net. I think that ill be fine in them for over night, ill be sleeping in the hammock for periods of about a week on and a week off.

Thanks for the suggestions but i went and took a good look at the ENO hammock and they pack down so small and light that it seems a n brainer to get me off a cot/the ground.

I don't know, the asym setup is more comfortable to me. Maybe I need to see someone set one up, but I have never seen one where it is quite the same.

I don't mind the bottom entry. It seals up behind you and I have never had any problems getting in or out.

Big fan of the ENO doublenest! The material is nice and cool, and if you use it solo you can pull some of the excess material over your for quick sun, bug and light precip. protection! The slapstraps are super easy to use. A great overall hammock for backpacking.
