Enough is enough!

Kendo's hasty emotional response certainly won't win any friends. I will tell you a secret about him though:

He sold his Pen knife to me, to raise funds for Pen's brother.

I wrote a long post on that thread to help him out. I hope that we (me too) in this forum can forgive a man for acting like an @$$hole.

A story:
I watched WWE wrestling last monday night with a couple of friends. Two men came out; one holding my Country's (Canadian) flag, one with a British flag. Those two flags were then used to beat on their bearers, and were broken and trodden on in the process. God knows I was angry. Would the Stars and Stripes EVER get submitted to this kind of abuse for mere pro-wrestling entertainment? I think not ever in a million years. So why so carefree with ours? This was the height of arrogance and contempt to me.

If this asinine behaviour is excusable, then so are some of the stupid things Kendo said.

I find either hard to excuse, but will try to set both aside and forgive. It's really neat to see others here doing the same. Efforts were even made to see his point of view. The ripples caused when he threw that big rock in the pond are now waning, and serenity is already returning to the pond.

I read once that it is foolish to answer a man according to his folly. People are stupid, but answering stupidity with rage is stoopider. ;)

Not try to make any excuses for this tv triffle But, its a old plot that for some reason was turn against the candians. I think it has to do with the fact they had a influx of canadian performers at a time before everything heated up with Iraq. I work with kids and kinda watch that stuff to have something to talk with them about. The theme of having a foreign theme every couple of years. In the 80's it was Iran and the iron sheik against sargent Slaughter an ex drill instructer role. Dose any of this make it right no. But what it dose is sell tickets in Canada when they travel up north. They do it to inflame and anger becuase that equals dollars. They just in the last couple weeks had a big northern swing threw canada and that may have been the plan.

I did go to the political forum and post a reply to kendo.

As much as I wished to, I did not suggest he take his attitude to the nearest bar and blow his cork there. It's there on page 4.

Unbelievable. :barf:

Kendo should take some time to read up on the situation in Germany during the rise of the National Socialist Movement & the years leading up to the invasion of Poland.

A lot of the "give us more time for a diplomatic solution" talk we are hearing now is almost the same as what the League of Nations was spouting then.

Tyrants & Dictators who maintain their power with the sword just won't listen to reason - a bigger sword is, unfortunatley, the only way.

Forgive or forget gentlemen all else just tears up your insides and not the one that was trying to be upsetting.

For an essay on a final exam just recently I compared the current situation with Iraq to the League of Nations and Germany. I said that if the League had acted when Germany first violated the Treaty of Versailles, Germany would have been easy to deal with. Once his military built up, he wasn't so easily dealt with. I said that if we allow Iraq to continue to violate UN resolutions that it's WMD arsenal would become the modern equivelant to Germany's conventional one. Germany used it's military to scare the League into silence and Iraq could do the same to the UN. Who want's to deal with WMDs?

As I mentioned in a few emails, I slept well last night and will again tonight. It is what I think of myself that is important, not what others think.

This is kinda funny; it's all come full circle. I arrived in this forum about the time another poster started baiting many members here- -and he used my posts as a launch point.

I sided with free speech- Many people I respect- Like YVSA- saw a troll and felt free speech not the issue.

But this time I did exactly what I felt should have happened a year ago during the similar incident- I expressed how I felt. You all expressed how you felt. I think that's nature's own behavior modification.

I feel a little sheepish about getting upset. But you know- I believe in a world where one can call a spade a spade. If the spade don't like it- become a shovel, or better, a khukuri!!!

from the Colin Powell thread: by me
It's just making good men say things they normally wouldn't.

This is how I feel about it and I'm sticking to it.

I don't agree with how the situation was handled, nor do I agree with Kendo's remarks.

But Phil and I know a different side of Kendo. Perhaps one that is as repressed as the side that unleashed and caused this whole outburst.

Has anyone here ever said something they later regretted?

I know I have. And I was man enough to not go back and try to erase it and change it, but to pay the price for my comments.

I sincerely hope we all can handle this in a way that is brotherly.

Changing the subject, but moving to a related one

A Note On Trollish Behavior:

If you are reading a post and get that feeling on the back of your neck (you know, when it's hot enough to fry an egg?!?) then you should immediately ask yourself:

Is this a troll?

If you think it is, just put ***TROLL ALERT*** in your post and that will be enough notice for the rest of us to steer clear of their comments.

There are those that like to pick an argument or "stir the pot" just to see how the rest of us would behave.

It's poor judgment on our parts to flare up and let a Troll manipulate us in this way.

--------------------------------------

The same could be said for the recent "Sebenza Faults" thread, the "lockbacks" thread and many others that are started just for the sake of flame wars.

Sams - I know you didn't intend this to end up this way.

Dan, excellent thought!!!!
I didn't post in the original thread because it was being taken care of the way I would normally do it.
But from now on I will do as you suggest, if I can remember it in time.

I've talked with Ken quite a lot in the past quite amicably and know at heart he is a decent human being, But with an entirely different outlook on things than the most of us have.
If you recall the thread where the young girl was clobbered by a young male punk Ken also said that we were all crazy here for the advice that was given.
IIRC I didn't get involved in that one either?
I think Ken also supports the Aussie gun laws, but I could be mistaken.
Knowing Ken the way I think I do there's one thing about Ken and that is no one can call him a coward as I truly believe he would say the same things to us in person, then what?
Again IIRC Ken is in about the same shape I'm in physically and not well equiped to handle himself.

Leaveing me to answer my own questions I remain sincerely yours,

then a lot of what is written would not be said. Written word is one-dimensional, has no inflection, no accent, no life.

All anger comes from the self, as does all happiness.

Ash, love that sig line form 13th warrior. Here's another good one:

Kendos stuff is water of a duck's back...

Yep good idea Dan.

I got into the whole thing late and by then it was all over. Some of you said what I wanted to already.

I will say one thing however--I do not want to have anything to do with someone who says the kind of things that Kendo said. Everybody gets mad, but you show some of what your made of when you speak---even if you are mad and out of control.

he's a troll sure as Saddam is an evil tyrant. We can remove both and should in a way fitting them both.

All done.

my exwife bought me a plaque to hang in my office.

I bought to put next to it,

As of late, I've been pretty much lurking in the background and reading much of the posts since I really had nothing to say or contribute. However, in this case, I might as well give my .02 cents worth. I do not support the war in Iraq myself primarily because I think we should be doing more to resolve our economic problems instead. Having said that, however, I'm all for supporting our troops with the best equipment possible. There may be many soldiers who do not support this war either, but will be going because disobeying an order and deserting their own military is against their honor and integrity. One of my uncles was a Major in the Madras Regiment of the Indian army during the brief war with China. At the time, India in general did not believe in using anything of foreign manufacture and unfortunately this also applied heavily to the military. On one particular mission, he and his men got lost on the border between India and China after the mission was over. In trying to find their way back, they ended up deep in Chinese territory. The Indian government had not provided their men at the time with any gear such as blankets or cold weather outfits for fighting in the cold. As a result, many of the men died in his unit and when he found his way back, he had only 3 men with him for survivors. That gave me a great appreciation for what many of these men have to go through in war. So Kendo, as far as many of the forumites as well as Uncle Bill supporting the men and women going to Iraq, I do not find anything that should be offensive to you in there. In addition, I find it deeply offensive as well that you would state that the United States should be destroyed because the same people that you accuse have also given much of themselves to the rest of the World in helping against Poverty, tyranny and in general with Human Rights. Also, as a U.S. citizen I find it offensive because of the war on Terrorism which I wholeheartedly support.

some wise words on this situation, from the Havamal, old (yet current) Viking wisdom:

7. A guest should be courteous
When he comes to the table
And sit in wary silence,
His ears attentive,
his eyes alert:
So he protects himself.

17.When he meets friends, the fool gapes,
Is shy and sheepish at first,
Then he sips his mead and immediately
All know what an oaf he is

22.An ill tempered, unhappy man
Ridicules all he hears,
Makes fun of others, refusing always
To see the faults in himself .

24.The fool thinks that those who laugh
At him are all his friends,
Unaware when he sits with wiser men
How ill they speak of him.

25. The fool thinks that those who laugh
At him are all his friends:
When he comes to the Thing and calls for support,
Few spokesmen he finds

26. The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom
While he sits by his hearth at home.
Quickly finds when questioned by others .
That he knows nothing at all.

27. The ignorant booby had best be silent
When he moves among other men,
No one will know what a nit-wit he is
Until he begins to talk;
No one knows less what a nit-wit he is
Than the man who talks too much.

29. Unise is he who is never silent,
Mouthing meaningless words:
A glib tongue that goes on chattering
Sings to its own harm.

32.The fastest friends may fall out
When they sit at the banquet-board:
It is, and shall be, a shameful thing
When guest quarrels with guest.

Inkeep, another round for the Cantina!

I know Bill Marsh will get a kick out of that quote.
