Any thoughts on the pros and cons of epoxy powder coat blades? I understand it's supposed to improve resistance to corrosives, but are there trade-offs that result from that process?

Slightly more friction with a powder coat but nothing I've thought was too significant. Besides it usually smooths with use.

Like all coatings, they scratch off with repeated use.

I doubt it would improve corrosion resistance much on a stainless blade. Might help on non-stainless. You still need to protect the edge.

I prefer bare steel. If I had to have a coated blade, I'd go with black oxide or parkerizing. They last better.

I feel it causes binding when chopping wood.

It looks ugly when all scuffed up.

I find that sometimes the epoxy coating chips off in peices instead of wearing off. I dont think this is the case with most of them, but I definately have a couple that do this. They can look cool, but I will probably end up sending those knives back for a satin finish. But I have heard that many companies have great results with this and it will last a long time though good use. Overall, if it is a userknife, I would perfer a non coated blade.
