This morning I got called by a friend saying his dad got him a RS6 ASK knife used, that it looks like the bear grylls knife from Robert Bayley, so I checked it out on my phone, being half away and a 3 hour time difference.
It does look like a BG knife, obviously not made by Robert Bayley, but the question is, he asked how I thought it compared to my Esee 3, or Hest. I honestly can't say anything about RS6 considering I've never owned any of their knives, but I told him Esee has held up to my abuse and use, and hasn't let me down, does anyone here have experience with RS6 in general? Or the ASK knife in question? He was wondering if its a knife he can use and rely on every day or if he should just sell it.
I said if you are that concerned with a useable fixie, I'll give you a knife, so a Esee 3 is on its way to him as soon as I get to ship it later today. He said thank you, and/but he still wants to know if the knife is any good, he loves the way it looks, which lol; imo is secondary to performance and durability hahahahaa. But he is enamored by Bear Grylls and the knife. I did my own digging and it appears there is a 7 year waiting list for Robert Bayley's knives. Imo if he really loves its look and design, and the knife from RS6 ends up being a bust/trash he should approach a custom knife maker to make him the knife. I saw a guy here in CA posting on yahoo answers I think I read earlier, had the same knife made for $150 I think? He said he didn't like the RS6 offering. But I honestly don't know.
Which brings me up to another and last point. If the RS6 is junk, anyone here recommend any blade maker who could make a clean version of this knife? Would Rowen? RS6 makes a knock, so assuming a knife maker could do the same?
After looking at the real deal, I must say a reproduction would look nice, but functional and reliable would be even better. Not sure he is grasping that, but said I would ask since I know some guys (meaning you here) who may have some answers, or who may be able to point in the right direction to have the knife made. So bam, here I am asking.
I myself cant compare the RS6 knife to an Esee 3, but 440 ? eh....and I dunno if RS6 even makes their knives, or if they out source to china or what not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, cause I myself, am stating to like the look of this knife, stick with my Esee's, but hey; if I could get a custom one made even for a decent penny, if he isn't willing to pony up for one, I'd like to go custom route myself lol.
But any info on his q's?
