Hey guys,

I've got a question to all the ESEE 4 owners, is this knife suitable as an every day carry knife? I'm having doubts about the over all length and the thickness of the blade, is it slicing well and how does it wear for example in an IWB-carry?

Pleas apologize my bad english, I'm not a native speaker.

get an izula foe edc, maybe a hest or a rc3 , but an izula its great for edc
rc4 , i think its a bit on the big size for that, even if it is possible to carry it all day long

Hello, Phil!

That depends where you plan to carry it. If you go in woods or work in such place, RC-4 is good though its wilderness version. RC-3 might suit bit better. Izula is definately EDC knife in most situations.

@ jacktrades_nbk & thejamppa, thank you for the quick responses.
I'm planning to carry it both in an urban environment but also out in the woods as a campknife. The Izula is a cool looking knife but I'm already owning a becker necker which plays probably in the same league as the Izula. I'm also looking for a knife with a fullsized grip.

For Urban I think RC-4 might be bit much, IMHO. Perhaps RC-3 with orange G-10 handles to tone down the aggressiveness.

If you wear your shirt untucked then it would be ok, that's how I do it and I edc the rc 4 everyday, I carry the izula in my pocket, and the 4 on my hip, at work and at home, and in the woods.....hope this helps.....

I got my 4 last monday. Its size is perfect for a bush knife.
Currently I'm experimenting with EDCing it around town. With the shirt untucked, the sheeple probably wouldn't notice it. Another "kniver" would probably recognize the lower part of the sheath.

Geez forum posting from a phone sucks....

@ ratamahata, yes it helps. This is exactly the way I would like to wear it, I do always wear my shirts untucked so it would fit quite good.

I edc a 3 in my pocket around town without issue. The 3 and 4 both have the same sized handles. I find it perfect, some find it small. If you wear a web belt, the molle locks should be a good way to carry a 4 under a shirt.

Normaly i like to carry a knife with the pommel at belt level, unable to poke in my "reserves". The belt then goes trough the vertical molle strap as high as possible.
However that would have been a bit too obvious around town.

Today i put my belt below the middle horizontal molle strap with the strap going underneath it and over my belt. This way the knife rides higher and only the lower 3-4 cm of the sheath are visible. It works better around town but while driving i found it has to few space to pivot and it rides a bit too high to hang down the side of the chair when sitting down. For a short period it would be ok, but for longer periods of driving i would take it off.

Hope it helps, will try to get some pics up.

I wish I could carry my 4 every day!

I'm not sure my customers would react favorably!

I find the Izula the perfect EDC knife.

You guys are amazing so many answers at such a short time. Thanky you all very much, you helped me a lot.

@ eloreno: If you want to carry your esee 4 every day just do it the people arround you will get used to it. If your handling it withe care no one would be afraid.

It's not that I'm afraid....

It's just not worth it! The Izula is quite capable of my daily cutting tasks.

I look forward to the weekend when I'm in the woods, and my 4 never leaves my side!

hi and welcome first off,

for me the 4 is alittle large for everyday carry. if i were going to carry it though i would leave the molle back off and put a large teck lock on it to carry it as high as i could and probably inside my waistband.

i carry the hest everyday, sometimes the esee3. both of those have full sized handles and the shorter blade is easier to conceal. the 3 is the best slicer of the bunch, i use it for food prep alot but its tough enough to do camp chores as well. the hest though is perfect for the things i do everyday, work around a farm all day, cuts bailing twine, pulls fence wire staples, then opens a beer to cool off.

have fun and take care.

I edc both an Izula and a 4 almost every day. I wear both on my belt or IWB using paracord to secure them. Every now and then I'll edc a Bowie with a 9 1/2 inch blade IWB so a 4 is definitely doable you just have to learn to do it. I would say the 4 is more suited for use in the bush but I also find it useful in an urban environment and it slices stuff great.

Just checked out another way to edc the four. I took a boot clip from a three, and mounted it to the right side of the fours sheath. I carry a three this way all the time. Just put the sheath into a pocket, and let the clip slide over the top of it.

It worked in pocket and inside my waistband very well. I'll try to get some photos later.

I'm going to carry this for a bit. I think a clip point four may have just moved way up my list

I would look into a Hest for urban stuff. I carry my hest every day and I'm a very small build. I iwb it by using parachute cord. You find a belt loop put the cord under you belt but over your pants, then use the cord lock around the base of the belt loop. Hope that made sense.

I have been EDCing an RC-4 since the beginning of the year. It is the last in a long, long list of EDC blades I've carried.

Now that I carry the 4, I have no inclination to replace it. To me, it is the ideal everyday knife for all purposes other than self defense - and it would even do well in that sort of context, if the situation required it (hopefully it never will).

Just about the only way I haven't carried it is IWB. The reason for that is I'm a little paranoid about getting the 1095 too sweaty and rusting the edge.

For me, my work environment puts some limitations on what I can and when I can EDC a knife.

I can get by with a folder or a small fixed blade Izula or a small BK Remora, but my RC-4 would get me stopped at the door at most of my customers. My employer also has employee policies in place that prevent EDC in the workplace. So it needs to stay in my briefcase.

I'm a bit jealous of people who can EDC with no worries.
