Well I guess unless this resolves itself I just saved myself the gold membership fee.
We had new members every day, welcomed like an old friend.
Well said mhill.
You posted that you bought a survival kit from ESEE and when your friend was on the way over to pick it up, you took the ESEE-6 out of it and substituted in a well-used Spyderco and that she would never miss it. Exactly TWO people asked if you took the knife out of a kit you bought or a kit she bought, a question of honesty. The way it was written I could see the confusion. Hardly "not a place for outsiders". We had new members every day, welcomed like an old friend.
If that old friends intentions were questioned before they were accepted. Ive seen that a bunch over there, and in many other subs..... Just my observations.....Not by everyone, but it only takes a few to ruin a good vibe. Im thrilled that the community grew like it did over there, it just seemed to me that in the past few years, it got a bit confrontational. Plus anyone who had anything negative to say was dogpiled and accused of being a troll or idiot, or whatever by the fanboys......Again, just my 2 cents.
BTW man, there is a nice meet coming up in the Mark Twain national forest south of Columbia in May. Great group of guys, and free classes from very skilled individuals. Not a bunch of people sitting around a fire cooking food, totally skills orientated. You should come......
As one who has had this happen in our forum i think i can speak on this......I applaud Jeff standing behind his convictions. We went through similar stuff in the WSS forum. That led to the creation of the outdoor gear subforum, and IMO it killed the WSS spirit. Its just not the same anymore. I know a ton of WSS regulars dont post much anymore, and many have jumped ship entirly. That hurt the community.

The "spirit" of a forum is what you make of it. It may not be the same format that you were initially accustomed to, but forums change just as life does and we must roll with it. To say that modifying a forum kills its spirit is a load of horsehockey. The membership is what makes the spirit and if the membership cares enough about the forum they will stick around and make it what they want it to be regardless of how it's formatted.
Was this before or after we purchased the Jonestown compound?
Youll find brand loyalists for every brand. Some because of the product and the people behind it, some just because thats what they own and they want to think what they have is the best of the best.
Maybe I just skip over the bullshit, but I cant remember more than maybe half a dozen threads like that since I was coming around last September.
In my oppinion, ESEE has 5 mods all of which have done a pretty good job of moderating the forum themselves. I have seen the ESEE mods close countless threads when the topic is not right for their forum, so it's not like they need extra moderating.
Jeff Randal does many reviews of gear and knives for different mags, so if someone wants his oppinion they are going to ask it on the ESEE forum....
I spend the majority of my time at the WSS and ESEE forums. I only like a few ESEE knives, so I do not go there to oooh and ahh over their products. I go there cause they also teach and talk outdoor survival skills, with a specialty in Jungle/tropical survival. I will get better oppinions about what gear to use for that enviornment than I will in anyother forum on Bladeforums. So I expect to see all types of threads there.
I think the parties involved are being stubborn, and yes too many threads are moved needlessly IMO
I think the agrrement is simple. If a super mod thinks a thread doesn't belong there, message Jeff or Mike and ask them. How hard is that???
Both Bladeforums and ESEE benefit from each other. Who benefits greater doesn't really mean squat. This situation is blown out of proportion and is so easily fixed that it blows my mind it has come to this...

 Well put.
but I have noticed WSS goin downhill since the change. Might not happen ALL the time, but it seems to sometimes. Thanks for putting it in differant terms though, you put it in a differant light for me, and that is a great way to look at it.
The ESEE forum was full of really really great guys though. Except Tonym. Screw that guy. (J/K Tony )

Well said brutha. I agree 100% with your entire post.
It is easy to see the drop in users of the WSS forum since the split. That forum went from averaging about 80 viewers at any given time to maybe 20. The participation from members have dropped as well. I would agree with what Karda is saying about breaking the spirit of a forum, but there is no argument that the forums participation was definately weakened..
Your still sore that Tina gave you that brown bag with my picture on it to wear when you're in bed ha? You need to get over that bro
It wasnt the bag that made me sore, it was that thing you gave her to jam in my rear....I dont know how you handle that. Dang......

Why was this posted in General.
If the people that left would've stuck around and learned to use the new format, instead of using the excuse of the loss of spirit in the forum to leave, then possibly people wouldnt feel that the forum was weakened. We lost uncle bill and then the forum changed. For some it was to much to bear and they also left. Those that really cared stuck around and made the difference in the long run and we are better and stronger than ever now. The forum is the same, just formatted differently. Negativity breeds negativity. Apply the same power in a positive manner and it will yield positive results. Believe it or not all you guys who speak negatively are doing more to hurt that forum than any format changes ever could.WSS lost that characteristic. I enjoyed it when the forum was pretty open to people sharing their experiences, etc. A lot of small changes added up to a slightly mundane forum - i hope the same doesn't happen with ESEE.
