i currently own a izula and love it the only thing i dont like is the size. i want a larger one but NOT the izula 2, the blade is the same size and it just seams weird, so im thinkin either a hest or a esee3.
the hest looks beter in my opinnion but its smaller so i dont realy know. id like to hear from u guys and if you have both which one do u perfer?

This question is asked a lot here, try a search to get a more detailed answer than what I'm about to give you.

I recently got a HEST and don't want to carry anything else. The HEST's configuration is perfect for what I need in a knife, and what I use it for. Your needs may differ, but either way, the HEST and 3 are both great little knives.

Do a little research, try a search, and decide which knife is right for you. Many will tell you to get both - and if you can afford it, that's the truth.

Good luck!

I sold my Izula because the handle was about .50"-.75" too small for me. I recently went with the HEST. I really, really like this knife. The ESEE3 is just too big for urban edc. The HEST is perfect for fixed blade EDC, imo. Like Steelscout30 wrote, it depends what your needs are. For me, the HEST is perfect.

Thanks guys, i know there is not best knife (between the two) and it is personal prefrence i guess i just wanted to know what some other people perfer and why.
also, thanks for the link its hard to find stright up compairasons between the two.

I have a HEST and Izula. I LOVE my HEST, but EDC the Izula because it carries so well.
My HEST lives in my EDC go bag and my RC5 sleeps in the nightstand or goes in the BOB if need be.

If you can EDC a HEST, it is a GREAT knife - but my Izzy does everything I ask of it - I only use my leatherman if I need the pliers or a screwdriver (and the screwdrivers aren't all that awesome anyway!).

Buy both. I own both along with many other esee and bussekin knives. I carry either the 3 or Hest depending on where i'm going.

If you like the izula and want a slightly bigger izula, by all meens get the HEST.
That is exactly what it feels like to me, the Izula's bigger brother.

The ESEE-3, while a good knife in many ways, is a surprisingly different animal.

[edit] Also the HEST is not really smaller than the 3 in any bad way. It has almost identical cutting edge length, and has MORE handle room. All while being very slightly shorter overall and noticeably lighter than my G10 handled 3. win, win, win, and win IMHO.

You won't believe how good the ergonomics of the HEST are until you hold one in your hand. It might take a few uses to really appreciate how aesthetically pleasing it is, but this is by far one of the most ergonomic knives and especially fixed blades I've ever held. It fits very well in my medium-sized hands.

Between the ergos and the thicker stock, it made the HEST my first choice over the 3.

It really is an ongoing debate about which to carry every day, but the HEST seems better suited to me. The thing is just awesome.

I have to stop clicking on these topics... I now want to buy a HEST and a RC3.

:D I know this feeling, I asked the same type of question not too long ago and winded up purchasing the 3 (which is still on the way), and pre-ordered the Hest Folder.

I have this notion that I should have gotten the hest, however that feeling may just be that I need both :D

Both are nice, and you'll wind up with both, but for all-around and edc I prefer the HEST. It's not really smaller per se, but handier/easier to carry. My 3s I use more as camp/skinning knives.

yeah i relized in a link to a pic that was posted on here that the hest does have more handle length becuase it dosnt have a choil but when i first saw it and saw the polmel or butt of the handle i just thought that hook could be a bad space for your pinkey finger.
thanks for the fast responses,
JBK
