Etched art work on blades

Over the years, Buck has included some very nice art work (via Aurum and others) that was etched on their blades. Since it is highly doubtful that they will ever use the artwork on another knife, I wonder if they would consider selling prints of the artwork or, better yet, digital downloads of the art work. It would allow Buck enthusiasts to make some nice displays for their knives and would earn revenue for Buck Knives, Inc. We, as buyers, could always sign a disclaimer that it would not be used for commercial purposes (to satisfy Buck's Intellectual Property lawyers).

Seems like Buck could offer this via their website at little cost to themselves and still make a profit on otherwise idle/unused IP assets.

There have been some Aurum posts in the past forum history, maybe just a few of the designs but seemed like a bunch to me. i.e. search function..... 300

If Buck Knives was worried that the sale price per piece might not justify individual art work purchases, they could offer an "all or nothing" initial digital download "book" of all etched artwork created up to the date of release or up through a certain date in a year. The price for this starter download would be enough to justify the relatively small expense of creating it with plenty of profit left over to pay any royalties to the subjects of the etchings, if necessary. Additionally, Buck could sell annual subscriptions to the book that would contain just those artworks that came out each year thereafter creating additional profit.

Prints of the etchings or even color-enchanced prints of the etchings could also be sold online. It just seems to me that Buck Knives could be monetizing this idle intellectual property.

I believe I read something to the effect that BUCK did not own the copyright on the artwork, Aurum did. Aurum did about 200 different etchings for Buck over the years. The same process was set up in house after Aurum's demise.

How does one go about looking at all the blades Aurum etched for Buck?

.... working on it ...... half way there maybe.....
Wish I had started when I was younger, my collection wouldn't have cost near as much......... ;o)

Sorry I meant are all of them pictured somewhere besides the Buck catalogs? I have access to them online but I doubt they are all listed.

I knew what you meant....just having fun with it......
You will only find a small fraction in the catalogs. Most were Special Projects.
I know of nowhere you can see them all in one place. There was a picture thread in 2012 but even that one barely scratches the surface.

I am glad you like the Buck Aurum etched knives as I do too. Over the years I've collected probably 95% of these particular Buck knives many of which I have displayed at the Blade Show in Atlanta.

jsak03,
Do you have a list (or personal catalog) of your knives that you would share with the group so we could start to develop a Master List of all such Aurum-etched knives for like-minded enthusiasts?

There's only a handful of people that have the compiled list and photos of all aurum etched bucks. Last time I looked through them I'd guess there were several hundred if not a lot more. A lot never went into production making them pretty hard to find in person.

It would be nice for someone to develop a coffee table book full of Buck's LE/SO art knives. I love these and have a few photos, but there are so many I have never seen. Only see them listed in books and lists.

When photobucket killed the links years back it hurt collectors as a lot of fantastic photo history was lost.
