Evenheat Power Interrupt Switch

Hi all,

I'm leaning towards purchasing an Evenheat LB 22.5 oven. I'm probably going to get the Quite Drive Solid State Relay, but I want to know if I should get the power interruptor switch. What's the purpose? First of all, is it dangerous to open the oven while the coils are still powered up? If it is, can't I just turn the unit off then back on? I will be using the oven for heat treating (normalising, annealing, hardening, tempering). Any input appreciated. Thanks

In HTing knives the interrupter is very important. Think about it, we are grabbing a long metal object with tongs. The blade could easily touch a coil. Enough said.

Fwiw,
For best safety, I hope they use a two pole switch. Even if using 120V supply, its always best to interrupt all current carrying conductors.

All the door interrupter switches I have seen interrupt the low voltage DC power to the SSR. This makes it impossible for the coils to receive any current if the unit has an SSR on each leg. on a 120VAC oven you only need one SSR. There are some 220VAC ovens with just one SSR, which I consider unsafe.

It would be a really dumb idea to run 15 amps of 240VSAC through a small limit switch.

Fwiw,
The option’specs of that kiln simply state, ”The switch used for this feature is a true safety switch and is designed specifically for safety applications.”
In my professional life, I would interpret as that switch interrupts power source. But absent schematic or explaination from manufacturer, Hard to say what that really means.

Great to see. Thats proper design.
Its SSRs is only for temperature control.
The lowpower doorswitch operates a two pole ”safety relay”.
As it should be.
Regardless of supply voltage, Both current carrying conductors are interrupted when the door is open.
