Well, to say the least, the Harrisonburg show was really successful. I sold a LOT of high quality wood, many knives, and won three categories in the knife judging. Total sales were three times last years show ... which was a good show. I'll post some photos tonight.
That sales were nice, but the real joy was winning the judged knives:
Best Factory Fixed Blade - For a J.M.Litchfield and Co. San Francisco, circa 1880, Naval officer's sword. It is in mint condition with original leather scabbard, undamaged ray skin grip and wire wrap, immaculate brass handle with the gold and silk ribbon and pine cone in museum condition ( they are usually either gone or in very poor condition). *
Best Custom Fixed Blade - For my Wootz Dagger. 17" OAL, 11" Wootz blade, modified Besh Wedge bevels, 8000 year old bog oak handle, sculptured nickel quillion guard and matching globe pommel. Wootz by Gregory Obach, Besh wedge use by permission of Brent Bashara.
Best High Art Knife - For my Gambler's Dagger. It has a carved ivory skull pommel, fluted ebony handle, twisted gold wire inlaid down the flute ridges, mokume fittings, damascus blade.
* My guess on the sword is that some Civil War vet bought it for the parades and reunions that became popular in the 1880's and 90's. He wore it to a function or two and stuck it in a closet, and stayed there until he died. From there I know that it got passed down the family until a militaria collector bought it in the 1950's, and then I got it from the collector's daughter.
