Off Topic exotic knife handle scales?

Fire hose micarta.
I would think that an old fire hose might be a bit hard to come by, though I haven't actually tried to find any.

Off to do some digging.

Edit to add:
Nevermind, it seems to be fairly easy to locate. I am curious about how well it holds resin now.

Has anyone here experimented with making fire hose "mycarta"?

Pinecone, and that C-tek stuff.

The classic's, burl (wood cancer), tortoise shell, and time proven micarta (electrical insulator) are still amazing materials when you think about them in the context of "heard of".

The weirdest I've seen (not in person, just online) were mealworms stabilized in clear resin. I almost bought them except there were too many bubbles in the resin.

These may not be the most exotic, but they are my favorite... It's little pine cones, lichen, and stuff from the forest plus buckeye burl stabilized in clear resin. I saw these and liked them so much that I ordered some scales made custom for myself. But I've been too afraid to use them yet for fear of messing them up...

hey milk baby , ill mess them up for you and send the result back ....woahhh

The two weirdest I've heard are, I human rib bone. I lady had a operation where she had two have a rib removed and she had it made into a handle. That grossed me out. Then I saw someone on this forum that kept his sons first haircut and baby teeth and put it in a handle. Also grossed me out.

I love stabilized corn cob and pinecone though.

Daniel.

I can imagin having your own bone used for a handle being a good way of dealing with the mental aftermath of the operation. (and the reason why you had to have the operation)
I'd be up for it.

I've seen Silvervain as handle material twice (on pics)
Supposedly it comes from China but I know nothing more. Looked beautiful

Horse manure stabilized in pee colored resin that I just found on ebay. I was tempted but they look kinda crappy.:poop:o_O

For along time I have thought about making micarta from stacked $1 bills.

you can get bags of shredded bills from the mints I believe, make micarta out of that. It would probably look pretty cool too.
I seem to recall Mike Snody doing some shredded cash scales back in the day.
