extrema ratio fake or real

I'd agree with Esav on this one, have them get you a better shot of the blade on both sides, well at the very least one with better lighting. Here is a legit version of the blade and you can see a series of numbers along the base of the blade where the handle comes in at the shear line. It also has a little better shot of the laser etched proofing mark that you might use for comparison Robin, Veel geluk Maneer!

here's annother older ad for the same knife.
He want me to come and get it personally...he said i could bring anyone to verify that its legit.

the diamond sharpener looks like the real thing, the fake ones on youtube have smooth ones. is it common that a fake knife has all this paperwork with it?

everything i can think off seems to be okay.

the shape of the tip is different from regular fake ones. ...ggrr i hate these chines replica's ...you see pics of replica's enough on the internet but you never know if china decided to make blades that even come closer to the Original ones in the last months or so.

thanks for the replies guys...if you think of anything please let me know.

at least i will know where the person selling the knife lives....and im quite a big fellow...but you you just dont want any of these kind of problems.

same goes if i would go for a strider or zero tolerance...they fake everything

Truly hard to tell from photos. Just keep in mind, if the price is too good to be true it's probably a fake!!!

No one gives away this type of knife.................

@ Haze...i have the same feeling...everythiong i can find online about fakes..doesnt seem to be the case here.
i will just have to trust my gut and the experience with knives that i have...how does it feel , sound, look...what kind of seller is it.

ill check out the link you gave me

everyone thanks for replying!!

ill let you know how it went tommorow

well ive got it...the real deal

this guy even called up a few friends and organized one of them to bring a fake one...chinese replica...the differences are so obvious whem you can feel them and look at them with your own eyes....theres no mistake, everything feels cheap and there absolutely no sense of craftmanship.
blund tip, locking mechansim totaly different..lots of craps and parts dont realy fit perfectly..the tork screws are much smaller, blade play

trust me...you will know

thanks everyone

much appreciated

It sounds like he was being helpful, and I'm sure the knife is real especially since more senior members think it is, but bringing along a fake is actually not good. He may have searched for the worst fake he could find which would make his fake seem more legit. Unlikely, but possible.

Sadly in this day and age fakes can be almost as well made as the real thing, aside from materials. Make than a few senior members here have mistaken fakes for real, and even some of the makers themselves have had a hard time telling (but of course they can). Easiest way to spot a fake you bought is to use it. Even the best fakes use a cheap blade steel, and there is a noticeable difference between the N690 that knife should have and junk steel or (best case on a fake) good HT D2.

Don't let me get you thinking that you bought a fake. I haven't seen the knife or fakes of it, so I can't say anything definitely. I'm just giving you information you hopefully never need or needed to know.

i understand where your post comes from i think.
and its a good thing that we stay alert on these scams.

But im absolutely convinced this is a real ER knife...to make a knife this good will cost to much money to begin with. its beyong fake...i can see in every detail...to make a copie this good...nobody would do that i think.
the sheat, the paperwork, diamond sharpener is all exactly the same as Original...i realy think no one would bother to be this precise.
And then there is the seller who made the impression ( seeing his house etc) that he didnt have much to complain about financially...he did have a collection of zero tolerance , strider knives.....and he invited me in his home.

so im sure...

how does one test steel?
without damaging it....

Best way I can recommend is to find a knife in a similar grind and same steel and see how long the edge lasts after a good sharpening, then do the same with the ER. Similar results means almost guaranteed original. I think the Ontario XM-1 has a similar grind in the same steel (and it is just a cool knife anyways... good reason to get one!), so you could trade for one and trade it off if you don't like it.

i will certainly check it out...but my RAO isnt going anywhere ;-)

i have a taipan to trade ( aus 8) for a more praktical knife...so i will go from there

thanks

Fox makes quite a few knives in N690 in Italy, which shouldn't be too expensive in Holland. You could have a good source, though. Can't really comment for the international market.

my brother in law works and deals in steel.
He checked it out with some binoculars ( or how do you spell that?) and he told me it was a fine grain expensive steel...but hes not an expert on the matter.

i wouldt know of a way to test steel without damaging your blade in te process.
maybe checking it out under a microscope?
