Just got a Buck Vantage Pro S30V off eBay and it seems like it may be fake. Note difference in scales.

Top one good, bottom possible fake:

Left one good, right possible fake:

Also, handle feels fatter, is actually more comfortable lol. Blade is pretty sharp maybe not quite as razor sharp as my definite legitimate copy.

Confirming my guess, but I'd appreciate any further input/comments.

Side note: blade is pretty damn sharp and it's actually more comfortable in the hand. I wonder what the steel is? Kind of want to keep. Only because I absolutely love the ACTUAL Buck Vantages of ALL types (I have small Paperstone & large s30V). Blade geometry, edge retention, COO, deployment, look & feel...great package.

Also, why counterfeit a $60 knife?

They were and still are at times $100+ knives. I swear they almost took an avid rosewood, removed the dymonwood insert, replaced with g10. How smooth is the blade? All the ones i have, the finish is so smooth its almost oily in feel.

Idk, maybe its some employee custom that slipped out. The avid rosewood are thicker vs the regular

In there descrip and the companies site itself they list it with molded nylon with g10. Did it come with a box? If its real, i want one

Looks like Buck may have changed the machining when they switched to the Rosewood scales. Your knife looks like the lines are like the Rosewood. Also counterfeits generally use different assembly and pivot screws. I say its real. Just an opinion tho.

Welcome to the Buck forum NWB. Enjoy your time here.

Enjoy your new authentic folder. The cited vendor has no fakes listed. None. Your folder looks like a Buck. I betcha that the box it came in has a correct label and it came with paperwork. I have seen no such fakes on the fake vendor site aliwhatsit. You dodged that bullet. :)

I'm guessing it is not a fake and is the new look brought out by Buck since they started the Rosewood series of Vantages. An email to Buck should confirm. You can see the similarity when you compare to the Rosewood model.

Thanks for all the input guys!

The blade feels/looks exactly the same, even the factory razor's edge. All bevels seem the same. I'm torn: my first one has cleaner lines, looks the coolest but this new one has a substantially thicker feel and it's super comfortable in the hand. Almost like 2 different knives.

@Oregon: You are correct, paperwork/box is same as my other Vantage Pro S30V.

@Badhammer: I'll send an email to Buck, good call.

I was boiling about an hour ago. Now it seems like they just changed the handle. Weird how a quick google image search yielded zero results with this type handle.

It's authentic. BladeHQ lists it on their website as a new arrival. This is the new Vantage. This is the Pro, and the new Avid has the wood inserts. It's a keeper!

FWIW I actually prefer the slightly thicker handle on the new Rosewood Vantage. It's not overly bulky and I haven't measured it but it's just enough extra that it fits my hand better.

Don't know how hard it would be to swap them but I'd be interested if Buck started offering different inserts for the Vantage line. Different woods, bone, carbon fiber, the skies the limit.

UPDATE: response from Buck confirms its real.

"Hi Mark,

The models that you have in the picture on the forum are both real and authentic Buck Knives. We changed the design of the handle for 2014."
