Hi guys - sorry if this is posted in wrong area or annoying somehow to anyone. I want to purchase a ZT0350 on ebay because the seller will accept my lower offer and its the tsst like i want (the serrated tiger stripe). I'm just concerned because Its on ebay and I have seen pictures of some pretty accurate ZT0350's. If anyone can tell from this listing/url pictures please let me know, I believe it is real but I have never owned a ZT and obviously haven't held this one. Thanks! - Jordan

Unless you're willing to take a chance and trust PayPal or your credit card company to bail you out and refund you if you get a counterfeit, best to avoid! They can put a REAL ZT350 in the photos and then ship out fake ZT350s.

You can purchase a BNIB ZT0350 from an authorized, reputable dealer for about $25 or $30 more, and know that not only is it genuine, but the dealer will stand behind the sale if there are any issues.

If money really is an issue, look for one here on the Exchange. I've bought over 100 knives here on BF, virtually no issues.

Is there anything specific I should look for though that would say it's a fake or not? I've collected knives for years and from these photos I don't believe it is a fake and I can't find the serrated tiger stripe really anywhere. Obviously I cannot tell if it is truly a fake until I hold the knife in my hands but the seller is top rated and from the photos it looks like real g-10 scales and everything adds up besides possibly the pocketclip but i've seen painted zt ones like this one. I guess the spring assisted action will tell me better than the pictures

Which part of "scam artists sometimes post pictures of genuine knives and then send out fake knives" don't you understand?

So I repeat:

"Unless you're willing to take a chance and trust PayPal or your credit card company to bail you out and refund you if you get a counterfeit, best to avoid! They can put a REAL ZT350 in the photos and then ship out fake ZT350s."

If you are willing to take a chance and file a claim if you get conned, go for it. Me personally I would pay $160, get it from an authorized dealer or find a nice one for less here on the Exchange. Wait.... that's what I already did!

Good luck to you, whatever you decide.

could have done without the sarcasm, thanks.

Okay, I apologize. I'll withdraw the sarcasm and the well wishes.
I did listen to you, Academy sports just so happened to have the knife... not serrated unfortunately but still TS onsale for $119. Atleast I can rest assured knowing its real, thanks for well wishes.

That is a great deal! You did good. Enjoy the ZT - it should give you many years of fine service.

If you need a serrated knife that is both well made and inexpensive, I recommend the Byrd Cara Cara 2 Rescue knife. A hela serrated cutter you should be able to find for about $30-$35.

Ask yourself, "how could a non authorized dealer have so many ZT models and qty available, especially when it looks like they mainly sell used diving gear?"

If you still can't see the danger of buying from this person, then you really deserve to lose your money.

Don’t buy expensive knives on eBay simply because the risk isn’t worth the reward. You are basically putting your hard earned cash on the line by purchasing something from a non-authorized dealer, with a very high risk of losing your money completely and being stuck with a phony item. I just don’t see the benefit here.

I know this is an old thread, but for future reference for anyone searching, since no one actually answered; the good ZT counterfeits that were sent to ZT were hard to spot even for them! The only thing found on a particular example is that metric screws were used. So if the relevant screw size from an American knife doesn’t screw past a rev or 2 it is fake. Another option is to have the steel tested with an XRF or PMI gun to see its composition. High end Chinese fakes can have moderate to high end Chinese steels, but usually different to genuine, and even equivalent steels to ZT blade steels (M390 etc.) will have different %’s which you could cross check with ZT.
PSA!
I’m in Australia, but from what I’ve seen of the Chinese counterfeit knives online (that are sent to US in bulk with dealers giving feedback about how the customers can’t tell the difference and such) I would get steel tests done on any modern American production knives - even from an “Authorised dealer”. Underestimate modern Chinese knife counterfeiters at your own peril! There are certain counterfeiters with their own “brand names” within the Chinese knife counterfeit community who charge much more than the others because their replicas are so good that no one has questioned them. There are LITERALLY Chinese counterfeiters of those counterfeiters who make good fakes with cheaper steel and try to sell them under the top counterfeit brand names, I shit you not. I became aware of this stuff since around 2019 and it was already a long flourishing system before then, and virtually the entire ENORMOUS counterfeit knife industry in China is made for the sole purpose of being sold to Americans IN AMERICA!!! If I bought any of the following knife brands in the last 10 years just to name a few, I would get the blade steel tested by a metallurgist (don’t bother checking the HRC, they can make even 8Cr13MoV any hardness they want up to 62):
ZT, Benchmade, Spyderco, Microtech, “USA made” Kershaw, CRK, SOG, Cold Steel, and many more.
I have absolutely zero invested in this issue, I am passionate about this for 2 reasons; firstly if I was a knife enthusiast in America and somebody had seen what I have seen I would want to know; secondly - I don’t have anything against most of the counterfeiters in general; most of them are literally trying to survive… but the party/ies who are profiting in the supply chain in America who are switching them out and selling them as genuine purely for profit should be facing severe robbery and fraud charges with mandatory imprisonment! And don’t tell me a dealer/shop owner with fakes believes his supplier is supplying genuine and he’s not making money from it. If you believe that I have some cheap beach front properties to sell you. Not saying no naive dealer has been stooged before, but they are in the best position to sell fakes and then blame it on a rogue supplier, no? They are who I’ve seen glowing feedback from, the people individually selling them. If you were selling ZT’s or Benchmade would you be careful who your supplier was?
Like STD’s, if you’ve ever wondered, get checked for your peace of mind. And if it comes back good, you can confidently flaunt your shit to whomever wants to see it.

This escalated quickly, imma put it on fb somewhere, by all accounts Americans are more hidden from this stuff than I realised.
