whats the major difference and which would you recommend for a camp knife?

F1. When it came to that same decision, I chose the smaller F1. Twice.

I have had both and it's a toss up. All depends on what your camp knife needs to do for you.

batoning chopping stuff like that. Ill probably carry my mora clipper if i need a smaller blade. im really leaning towards the a1 but have never purchased a knife over 100 so i want to do all my research before i spend the money

If you need to do a lot a chopping/batoning, a1. Just easier work with the bigger blade. It is a big blade too so if you plan on hauling it around backpacking, your going to know its there.
The S1 has a meaty blade and could do some batoning if needed along with light chopping.
The F1 is a great blade but it's more of a bushcraft knife.

Hey, Fox Lake! Any open water yet??

I have 2 S1's and 2 A1's.The A1 is an awesome knife for camp chores.I have battoned 1 1/2 foot lengths of 3'' round frozen paper birch for a winter camp.I was impressed. The S1 could have done this as well but the longer blade of the A1 makes it easier.

I've always heard great news of the F-1, but all of the fallknivens are great

I would think that the F-1 is easier to carry either on or off the trail. More sheeple friendly and a great EDC size :)

A1 is significantly larger, heavier and has a lot more chopping power.
S1 is more like a Ka-bar.

Depends what are your needs. A1 is more a small chopper, S1 is more a large utility knife.

I delayed buying Fallknivens for ever. I thought it is a plain basic knife, I purchased more popular sexier knives. Then one day I got frustrated with all the knives I had purchased and took the plunge.

You will never look back. Fallknivens are some of the best knives out there. It is the kind of knife you buy and the dreaming for knives of same size ends. I won't be buying another small FB for some time if at all.

I am saving for the A2. My dream combo is F-1 + A2.

Good Luck

Those are among the rare knives that are acquired taste:
I did purchase it because I had vaguely heard it was good. I had it sitting among plenty of other knives for quite a while cause I had some others to test.
I is only when I started using I realized how good it was, how all the well though small details made it better than most knives.
When you use the knives you take the feel that those knives where designed by people who use knives, that they weren't made direct from CAD to factory because they looked good on computer screen.

If you're going to chop, then the S1 is right out - it's way too small and light for any reasonable chopping. The A1 is much, much better in the chopping department. Overall, I would always choose the A1 over the S1. The S1 doesn't have much going for it unless one just really wants a bit of extra blade length over the F1. Now, the A1 isn't an enormously good chopper, but it is much better than the S1. The A1 is a good knife.

good choice

Buy one of each and decide for yourself. I returned the RC-3. The Fallkniven F1 is one of the greatest bushcraft knives ever made and all for about a c-note. I own two and have little interest in trying to find something better or similar anymore. I don't do "chopping" so those big blade knives are useless to me.
