helo, im looking for a field pocket sharpener and i came across this type of stone and im wondering if anyone got any experience with it and how good it can be on VG-10 AUS8 and S30V.
i would also like to know if u think i cant field-strop with the leather case i get with it. the intended use is not the get the perfect edge but to get a usable field edge until i get home once in a month from the field.

have a great day , idan

Idan, welcome to the forums! I have a DC-4 (same stone just a little bigger) and I highly recommend it. I use mine on my Leatherman which has an S30V blade and it works great! I've never tried stropping with the case but honestly, you can get your blade sharp enough with just the stones.

One thing you might want to consider....

I haven't gotten mine wet yet but I've read from other forum members that the glue used to hold the diamond side and the stone side together is water soluble. Some folks have suggested soaking it in warm water to separate the sides and then refastening them with epoxy or some other water proof adhesive.

Great product though. Go for it.

I have the 3 and a couple of the 4's. The 4 is more easier to control due to the slightly bigger size , yet doesn't take up much more room or cost a lot more.
I have separated the diamond plate from the ceramic under hot water on all of them ( yes, the glue is water soluble) and re-glued them with epoxy.
Having owned a ton of small size stones in various grits, styles and combinations , I feel that the DC-4 is the best sharpening stone of it's size I've ever come across. It's pretty much all the sharpening tool I need when away from home. I use the ceramic side most of the time unless I'm sharpening out a nick or re-profiling. Very top-shelf item:thumbup:
:)

thanks for the info , but i have another question, will the DC3 be enough for 3-4 inch folding knives for the field sharpening ? im already carrying a lot of weight as a soldier ans i want it to be as compact as possible even if that 1 inch sounds little, will the 3inch be enough ?

Yeah , the 3" is plenty good especially going light. I can't think of any 3" sharpener as versatile as the DC3. Mine resides in a Maxped. pistol clip sheath attached to my Esee 6. That's a fair sized knife and the DC3 takes care of putting an edge on it no problem. I usually go in small circles at the correct angle finishing with light swipes along the length of the blade.

the DC3 is an swesome little stone.

no, you won't be able to use the case as a strop, or at least, not very effectivly.
