Need some help swaying myself one way or another... treating myself to a luxury knife for Christmas. Not a fan of black coated knives, and am really intrigued by the Fallkniven X knives.

So now I'm stuck between the F1x and S1x... uses would be camping and day hikes with my wife and kids. When camping I have hatchet/saw/etc. with me so I'm leaning F1x, but just wonder if that 5" blade might be better balanced. On the other hand, looks like a bit more weigh to bring along...

I'm also 6'1 with not-small hands, and guessing the F1x handle is probably smaller.

Anyway, appreciate any help from anyone who has handled both!

I would think the F1 would be more balanced and maneaversble. I have a regular F1 and S1 and the F1 feels better in the hand, my S1 has a longer handle but feels thinner to me, sounds strange.

I've always viewed the S1 as more of a "workhorse" of the two. It has a nice clip point if penetration is required, and the sabre grind puts a bit more meat behind the edge.

The F1 has basically a full flat grind, so it excels at slicing things a little easier/thinner.

There is no wrong answer to your question, and the weight difference is negligible.

Cedric and Ada (youtube channel) has a lot of good reviews of Fallkniven knives.

I tend to consider the Fallkniven knives as being more optimized for splitting wood than for fine slicing. If you are going to be using a hatchet/saw/etc for wood processing, I would opt for a thinner "companion" knife.

F1 is a great all-round camp knife. The drop point works great for field dressing game, the high flat grind makes it a good slicer, and it's built for survival situations (a.k.a. Swedish Air Force Survival Knife). The Thermorun grip is harder than Kraton and not as grippy but still works pretty well when wet. The tang extends beyond the end of the handle so you could pound on it. Very compact, too. I favor the leather dangler sheath.Mine is VG-10 but Fallkniven has other steel options.

He is not talking about the F1 but the F1x. The F1x has the same style of blade, with the swedge, as the S1/S1x.

I had a F1x and was not a big fan. I think its pretty cheaply put together, the two slabs of plastic are just lightly screwed on to the full tang and are also pretty slim. And with the allready thick stock the full tang versions are HEAVY!

I'd look at the pro series, or even better the original ones.

But between F1x and S1x I would go with the F1x and save at least SOME weight!

;)

Thanks all! I went with the F1x, put the order in. Almost got swayed to the original F1, but I really like the new sheath design too.

Yeah, forgot to mention, the sheath on the x series are suuuuuper. Hope they make it a standard.
