I have been eyeballing a few Fallkniven blades lately. And about 2-3 different models look highly useful for my general outdoor interests. Do you own one ?, which model ?, what is your opinion of it ? Up were I live they don't cost much more than an ESEE, so they aren't an arm and a leg. Thanks.

I have an F1 and an S1. The F1 is an incredible knife and if the handle was a bit larger to better fit my big hands, it would be my favorite production fixed blade general-purpose knife of all time! The S1 is also a great knife. The price may seem a little steep, but I think they're worth it. The knives I own both have laminated blades with a VG-10 core sandwiched in between layers of ordinary stainless steel. They hold a a great edge and are easy to touch up by stropping (both have convex edges). I think everyone should have at least one Fallkniven in their collection.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Have the F1 in original VG-10, and would happily take it anywhere as my only FB. I prefer the CS Master Hunter in the field for its larger and a bit grippier Kraton handle, but I've used the F1 to skin and field dress moose and black bear with no complaint. The Thermorun grip is excellent in cold conditions, though as you note a bit small, especially if you're wearing game dressing gloves in sub-zero temperatures. Also appreciate the Fallkniven H1; it's a bit more specialized than the F1, but again, it's a knife you could depend on anywhere.

I have an S1 with a custom leather sheath and my only complaint is I got it in black(need to strip)

Good alrounder for backpacking or dayhiking, or hunting.

F1 just right size and shape, great knife, especially if the price is OK

i never had problems with mine knives, but i handled(rehandled)couple others, most of them had micro cracks at edge, noticed that usually on S1,but i found after sharpening edge becomes more resistant to chipping.

I have an F1. It has probably the best performing blade of any knife I own with the smallest, most uncomfortable handle of any knife I own. Very light and handy, good for backpacking, or backing up an axe on a canoe trip.

My friend with that quote find a custom guy here on the forums that will rehandle it or if handy give it a go. I am going to take a grinder then dremel to my RTAK-2's thick uncomfortable handle this year to approximate the junglas.

I like em, I think they are great no nonsense knives. They are light, compact (no choil) and take an incredible beating.
They take and hold a good edge without having to worry about corrosion.

Check out the NOSS Fallkniven destruction test on You Tube if you have a few minutes and want your mind blown.
You can skip all the beginning and go strait to the part where he pounds the blade through concrete and the 2" steel bar.

My average large size hands have never had a problem with the F1 or S1.
The texture on th PHK was a little aggressive so I spent a few minutes with the sander and got it where I like it.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the feedback. I particularly enjoy hearing how a knife was used, the environment, and how it stood up. The eye candy is superb !

I have an F1 with the ivory micarta handle done by Fallkniven (vs Bark River). Beautiful knife. I like mine a lot. It remains my most expensive factory fixed blade. I haven't used it enough to make a judgement about the handle, but it seems just fine to me, but I don't have large hands. I have no plans to buy a rubber/plastic handled one or a larger model. This is my favorite using size for a fixed blade.

I have 2 F1's and absolutely love them. I'd like to purchase an Idun, but I went overboard this past year with several GEC purchases. If it wasn't for this, I'm sure I'd be the proud owner of an Idun as well.

You owe it to yourself to try a fallkniven.
Here's a comparison pic for some fixed blade models:

From left to right: A-1, S-1, F-1 x3, H-1, F-1 with micarta x2, WM-1 x2, H-1
Bottom: F-1 x3

Hi Tek. Nice collection indeed. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Idun compared to the F1.

Own Currently
3 F1's
3 WM1's

Had in addition
1 A1
1 S1

So you can see which ones met my needs and the others were excellent, but larger than I needed. I don't think you should go on without owning at least an F1. :)

Kind of swinging between the H1 and the F1. I love the enclosed sheath option on the F1 and wish that I could get it for the H1. I feel that I'm tending to go for a smaller wood crafty blade as an axe\hatchet back up. As I'm trying to move away from battoning knives, if I can. The warden was asking me what I wanted for xmas the other day. I said, nothing really, as I have for several xmases now. After a while you've pretty much bought most of the toys that you want already. Then I remembered thinking about the Fallknivens. Hell, who knows what I'll end up with. I change my mind on these things like I change my socks. Sounds like an enjoyable box to open on xmas day though..........:D

My wife makes precisely the same comment to me when I ask her what she wants for Christmas. Leaves me hanging and end up buying a bunch of useless junk or go for really expensive stuff. Easier to just tell them.... I WANT THIS! We're not kids anymore, or most of us aren't, so Christmas doesn't have the same magic that it had when you still believed in Santa.

Same applies to me, and if I tell my wife... ah, nothing. What she doesn't understand is that I really don't want ANYTHING for Chistmas, but ends up spending hundreds of dollars on useless or seldom used power tools or other junk. I WANT THIS!
