Is anyone planning on getting one? If so, respectfully, why???? It looks like the price will surpass the prices of the Volcano and the NL1 Thor. What will it do that lower-priced offerings by Fallkniven won't do almost as well?

I don't see why this should cost more than the thor, is it bigger or something? Maybe its just me but I would think leather grip is more labour intensive than rubber grip.

I have been shopping around for a knife that size but have a budget less than half that for the next year of looking around.

Does this new Bowie use some 'super-steel' that is significantly better than more cost effective options?

It looks way better than the NL1 Thor of the same length, since the handle doesn't look slippery, having a much grippier finger groove and a better handle flare. The blade design is also far superior, being much broader. Kraton is a huge step forward from the dangerous leather washer design (the 8" Odin was the only knife I owned I was worried to handle: You could feel there was literally nothing to hang on to).

I would never think of getting the Thor after seeing this one. 10" is a bit short to compete with Busse, but the edge grind will be much thinner OOB. The blade width is a large improvement over the Thor/Trailmaster designs, and the handle even more so.

Most of what is offered in this category is carbon steel, so there isn't much else made in stainless and of high quality in that style... Not cheap, but nothing from Japan ever is, and factory made from Japan is about as desirable as it gets. Around Randall prices, but Randalls in that size are not stainless, and certainly rougher in finish.

Well it does have the Cos steel which is suppose to be a better steel laminate. I do like the overall look of this knife and the handle will be more grippy I would assume. The price is getting up there with Busse bowies. I'd like to see a head to head go with a BM to see just how tough it is. It's a sweet looking bowie for sure, a nice stag handle would look awesome.

A note on slippery leather handles. When they polish them to look pretty they become slippery. For a working knife you can soak the leather in hot water and it will roughen up. You can also checker leather.

I think the Cos steel on the Modern Bowie is probably more expensive than the VG-10 on the Thor, but the leather handle of the Thor is probably more expensive than the thermorun handle of the MB. KC lists the price of the MB at $674.95.

Don't get me wrong; I do like Fallkniven knives. I just don't see that the MB is a $675 knife when compared to other offerings in their lineup, but I am certainly open to any opinions to the contrary. I guess it's mostly a "bang for the buck" issue with me, but I also would still like to know exactly what the MB can do that it's less expensive brethren cannot do. I also wonder what the MB would go for if Fallkniven just offered it in a blade blank. If I am going to pay a premium for knife steel, I think I should at least be able to have the nice handle on it that I want.

I have a Busse Basic 11 that cost me less than half the price of Fallkniven MB as well as a hand-forged custom bowie from Phillip Patton that was also less expensive.

I'd love one. I've got an f1 pro, the lam cos steel is great. But I can't afford one at that price.

I’ve been waiting for the Thor replacement.
I will pick one of these up sooner or later.

It won't do anything new or different, it just cuts stuff, and looks decent doing it. The cobalt steel core is VG-10, the outer layers are 420J2, if I remember correctly. Good steel, very tough, but too rich for my blood.

If ya don't like the Modern Bowie, the Trail Master is still a good knife.

yep id go trailmaster over it.....but this modern bowie is a great looking big knife except that price kills what its got going for it.

News to me! I'm curious what it would be, the VG-10 laminate is pretty popular. Are they using M-2, HAP-40 or is there a new one(cobalt steel) I haven't heard of? Wouldn't surprise me...

£689.95 in the UK, which is roughly $900. No thanks.

I love my A1, but if I wanted a big Bowie knife for that price, why wouldn’t I go custom?!
Yes, I agree, my thoughts exactly. If the price gets too high for a factory knife, might as well look for a custom. Plus, there are semi-customs like Busse that are cheaper than this new Falkniven. My limit on a factory knife is about $400. Anything over that, it better be incredibly great or else it ain't really worth it.

I was about to say “Hell yeah”, then I googled it and checked the price. I can get something much better custom made for this price... so No way!
