Just received my NL4 today! Sorry no picts. First impression was holy crap! What a truly gorgeous knife. Ive gone over it very well and cant find a single defect. It is as perfectly built as Ive ever seen. I recently received a randall model10 and couldn't say the same. The blade is hair popping sharp (sofa king sharp)and has a very nice satin finish. lamination of the vg10 is centered and grinds are exact. I was concerned the handle might be a bit small for my liking but not at all. very comfy for my med-lrg sized hands. The new leather handle is a bit slippery out of box but will get better with use like my other leather handled knives did. The sheath is very well made and is easy to remove and put the knife back into. I was gonna get the NL3 but glad I didn't. the 5+ inch blade is very well balanced and I like the single guard vs the double on the NL3. It is also a lot lighter and would IMHO be a better all round camp knife. This is my first Fallkniven and am VERY impressed. Ive read good reviews for Fallkniven for a long time but never bought one because I just didn't know anyone who had one to check out first. Anyway am glad I pulled the trigger. My only complaint is that I didn't get one sooner! I see a few more in my collection very soon. Top notch job Fallkniven!!

I just saw this thread, using the search function.

Nice to see such an overwhelmed impression!
I've had my NL4 since several years, but only used it occasionally until now.
There was some initial microchipping of the factory edge, but this stopped already after a first resharpening.
Today it only needed stropping and that is after an hour of cutting double sided tape very close to metal fittings.
Some contact with the metal was unavoidable and this slightly dulled the edge, but no more microchipping!

The cutting performance of the NL4, exeeds by far any working knife like Mora or disposable utility blades at the work site.

I'm really thinking hard about Fallkniven, and appreciate your thoughts, the NL4 is at first glance, a very aesthetically pleasing knife, but VG-10 is in my mind, a very decent steel for a general use fixed blade, not to mention when clad with softer 420J. I know I like VG-10 in my Spydercos. The factory edges I've felt on them (fallkniven), where impressive.

Whetrock, a factory edge is often less durable, than the working edge developed after a few sharpenings.

There are many exceptions to this and my other NL's had very durable and sharp edges right out of the box.

The NL 4 is indeed a very goodlooking knife, but make no mistake:
It's a hardworking tool built to be used!

Mikael
