It was a recent acquisition that prompted the conundrum. Who makes the best fake stag and who makes the worst.
I have always thought Schrades staglon to be very authentic looking-not always but mostly. It sits at the top of the faux stag food chain.
At the bottom end of the scale is the "so obviously made of plastic why did they even bother?" look of the Japanese kitchen slicer.
Then I saw the Richards fishing pen knife on ebuy. After several looks to ascertain its credentials I decided it was plastic but bought it anyway for curiosities sake.
They did a good job on this faux stag-firstly it looks real in terms of texture and I like the detail of the redness that is seen on some antler from the potassium permanganate.-the fact they included this in a fake replica product to make it more realistic is a good detail IMO.
Examples please -and if this thread isn't porch halal please moderate it off to its rightful home (although it is traditionally inspired). Cheers:D

There are 3 in the pic that are stag antler.Just for comparison.

Staglon can look OK. I have one of those Richards Scouts too :) Worst fake stag, probably the stuff Richards/Imperial used on the outside of their clam-shells?! Got at least one example of that too! :D

Thanks JB -:) apart from being fake stag its a good little pocket knife. Although very blunt. In fact its blunter than blunt.
Its beyond blunt. I think if I sharpened it would achieve bluntness.

I began as a Schrade collector so i have much appreciation for Schrade & related family of knives. However to me the Uncle Henry Staglon is the ugliest plastic to ever be put on a knife. It was about 1960 that Schrade-Walden switched over from bone to Delrin on their regular run knives. The Old Timer `Saw Cut` Delrin is o.k. but the U.H. Staglon just screams `PLASTIC`. Prior to this the Schrade Cut. Co. and early Schrade-Walden knives had beautiful Peachseed jigging on the bone handles. What a loss it was and is, that this beautiful jigged bone got replaced with plastic Staglon.

Agreed kj. It is ugly compared to delrin and bone is far more desirable than both. I think its redeeming feature is durability. That and cost.
anyway i'm keen to see maybe the ugliest fakest looking faux stag anyone has.I think similar discussion was raised about real stag.

Thanks Sctreenedporch.that is impressive with its realistic representation of the actual species from which this antler material was cropped.

But according to the self-similarity principle of the theory of fractals-
No, it's some kind of plastic, all right. Extremely light. I like the blade ("SOLINGEN/MADE IN GERMANY") a lot, so it's too bad the crown of the "stag' is so uncomfortable to grip.

Maybe the OP's idea was to post synthetic faux stag, but this Weidmannsheil stag bone is pretty realistic looking.

I just got one of the Case - Carhartt trapper knives and it's pretty darn bad. I got it to use and not as a collection piece, so it's not a big deal to me. But it really makes me ask, why bother? It's still a cool knife but man it's bad...

So if you look closely at the deer's antlers you will see another tiny little knife handle?

Exactly. Like Hokusai's print of the wave ends in droplets that look like the wave. It's supposed to occur throughout nature also.

Nice one Al-that is truly awful-it ticks a lot of boxes -
*Ugliness
*Unlike any stag anyone has ever seen
*Shrinkage due to poor quality plastic
The only thing in my opinion that lets it down is that it may have some use as bait-because it looks like something out of a bait box -beach worms to be precise.:D
Jeff-that's way too natural and looks waay too good for this thread although strictly speaking bone stag is faux antler-is it not ?It is something other than antler pretending to be antler-faux antler.
Jack that is horrible-who was it who thought that it would be a good idea.? in terms of our recent discussion around business models of the Sheffield and Gt Britain industry in general.

Peter Parker- that little Remington is good quality faux antler.

:D:D:D
(I didn't expect to see fractals appear in this thread, but I sure am glad they did!)
