As the year is winding down I thought it might be fun to start a thread where we can talk about folks' favorite 2020 releases. :)

I'm not the thread police, but IMO knives that came out in new variations (scale colors, blade shapes, etc.) should count, and 2020 disappointments aren't what's on my mind -- just the good stuff.

Of the 2020 releases I picked up, here are four that stood out for me. They're also a decent cross-section of my collection as a whole: giant, big but practical, tactical but practical, and just for fun (but not useless). :D

4-Max Scout, 0308, Canis, Flip Shank

My favorite fidget knife of this bunch is the Flip Shank, aka the "Kizer Pumbaa." It's funny looking, but surprisingly comfortable in-hand. Makes a great little around-the-house knife, which is handy because it's super fun to fidget with.

Dollar for dollar, particularly if you hunt around a bit, the 4-Max Scout is an incredible value. Being cooped up at home all year, I haven't really had a chance to put it through its paces yet. It's a monster, but a well-designed monster. For a massive knife, it's not a terrible slicer -- and the handle feels great.

The ZT 0308 has seen the most carry time, and it's just an all-around excellent knife. Surprisingly slim and easy to pocket for a heavier knife, and big without feeling oversized. I know the hole is polarizing, but I dig it. Love the milling and action on this one, too. It's become one of my benchmarks when I'm considering a new ~4" knife, as in "Would I carry Knife X when I already own the 0308?"

But overall, the Spyderco Canis is shaking out to be my favorite 2020 release. I didn't love it when I first saw it, but as I read about it and enjoyed folks' pictures of it here, it grew on me. Its slimness (thinner than a PM2), light/medium handle texture, hollow grind, full-length edge, and perfect blend of "form follows function" and interesting aesthetics -- something Spyderco often does really well -- make it stand out. It's a joy to carry and use.

So how about it: What are your favorite knives released in 2020? :)

By far :)

The ZT0308 gets honorable mention, it's been a long time since I got a new ZT, and that one blows me away.

Then again, the year is not over yet. I know there is a Kuros being assembled for me, as we speak :)

In no particular order:

Doug Ritter RSK,
Swayback,
Native 5 Rex45 G10,
Caribbean SF SE,
Chaparral Raffir Noble.

The premium versions of the Elementum are nice. I really like my Micarta Gemini but I did touch up the scales a little to get it where it is. The Artisan Arroyo is lovely but I only just got it... I'll have to revisit this closer to New Year's Eve.

That said, the other AR-RPM9 knives only just came out. Not a lot of testing on it yet but having a powdered-metallurgy budget steel could be noteworthy for 2020. I've seen people putting up both the Ria in AR-RPM9 and the Civivi Ortis in 9Cr18Mov as "budget knife of the year" but I haven't tried them.

The only knife I bought this year was a Vic SAK Spartan that is setting in my daypack. Kind of a back up to whatever I carry for the day.

Thanks to one of you that gave me one in the last PIF thread, I now have a goal to place a SAK (or similar knife) in every pack or gear bag my family owns.

I like the Benchmade Bailout in CPM-M4 and anodized aluminum scales.

I also like the Becker BK18 Harpoon. It's pretty neat.

But I hope my Xmas stocking this year contains the KaBar Krunch spoon. The straw for drinking the leftover milk from my cereal is genius.

Cold Steel 4 MAX for me. It filled a niche for me in landscaping type uses. Fit and finish is better than my Italian version and I prefer AUS10 over 20cv for a working blade.

Im gonna have to go with the ShamWeri. Is a very nice knife. :)
Also the GEC #74.

Good thread, Brother. And it’s your thread, so police away. ;)

The only new releases for 2020 that I really liked was the ProTech Malibu and the GEC Beer & Sausage. Otherwise, I've tracked down a few traditionals and some older knives that were discontinued before I became interested in knives. I also moved to a state where automatics are legal, and I've bought a few of those. I really like the ProTech Operator series knives, just for the cool factor.

Marbles D2 with Black Canvas Micarta series traditional knives.
I only have the MR431 Sowbelly Stockman, but it has been a frequent multi-consecutive week EDC since I got it in mid-late September or early October.

SYCKO WS 1020. A bit outside my usual orbit, but the features at the price caught my eye enough to make an impulse buy.
Rough Ryder 2176 Upswept Trapper. One of the loveliest knives I have seen at any price. At the price, I was able to buy three.
Marble’s micarta D2 Sowbelly Stockman. Without realizing it, I have been a fan of this pattern for years, usually in RR livery. I bought this one without realizing I already had three earlier iterations.
