I was wondering if anyone here uses a rucksack to carry their everyday or weekend gear, and which make/model/version they might recommend.

I've used this one until about a month ago. It worked great carrying gear or books. I just recieved this bag as an early Christmas present, most excellent.

Hope this helps

My Fav .... Filson. Tough as nails, water resistant, cool bridle leather straps, looks better dirty. Using mine about 2 years now hiking as well as my every day go to work bag. THrow it sit on it do what you like you wont rip it. http://smtp2.thewwwstore.com/filson/262.HTM

Its capacity is not HUGE. So unless you travel light you wouldnt use this for an extended campong trip but for a all around useful bag its great!

There were some postings on Bladeforums a while back where someone put up a link to a retailer of all leather rucksacks, those were really sharp. If I can find it, I'll post the thread up here.

I just recieved my Filson and is it ever nice. Heavy fabric with high quality leather.
Thanks for the lead!!!

I ran into Andy Prisco at a show and he also uses Filson. He said it holds up great, also.

I just got a Blackhawk 3-day pack to use as my bugout bag. Really tough and well-designed. $79

Hello,
I have been using a Blackhawk 3 Day Assault Pack since 96'. Its a great piece of gear.

Yeah, I've had my 3-Day Assualt pack for almost 2 years. I use it 5 or 6 days a week. It's very tough...nothing has torn or broken.

I recently ordered a courier bag from Timbuk2. They make very durable bags in three sizes out of 1000 denier Cordura or waxed 12oz. cotton canvas. You can choose the material, colors, and accessories.

Despite the many complaints about them I've read here and elsewhere, many of which are no doubt justified, I've ordered from them at least a dozen times and have saved a pile of money. A couple of transactions didn't go well, but I've never lost any money.

My favorite is my Willis & Geiger. Unfortuantly the went under a few years ago. A shame. All their stuff was top notch.

From a cost/utility/value perspective it's really hard to beat the U.S. military's equipment. Their used medium ALICE packs can be found for around $50. They work very well and hold up seemingly forever (mine is 17 years in service with me and still going strong).

Another plus is that they accept all the standard equipment (canteens, pouches, holders, etc.). The medium size pack can be used with or without a frame. I use mine without as that seems to fir me better on day hikes and weekend walk-abouts.

I gotta agree with AJ, I use a medium ALICE pack without the frame for my rucksack duties. It has a great volume for a medium bag, convenient design, and sits well on the back. Plus like he said easily accepts all the standard equipment. the only drawback I've noticed, if you overload the pack (which is easy to do) the shoulder straps are uncomfortable.

That is Blackhawk's 3 day assault pack. We carry it and many more packs from Blackhawk.

20% off for past and current military, police, EMS and S&R.

Hope this helps.

BlackHawk Raptor. The New one. It has the padding on the back side so it feels good when theres alot of weight in it.
