Feedback needed on Benchmade Osborne 940

Hi Gang,

I am considering a Benchmade OSborne 940 with blue annodized handle. The price I have from the dealer is about $130 including shipping for a new knife.

Any feedback on this model? I'm looking to buy my first Benchmade with an Axis lock and a plain blade. How does this compair to the 710 and other models and is this a good price?

The 940 is my favorite among all the Axis shod Benchmades. I love it - very non-tactical, all utilitarian. Lightweight, slim, easy to carry - it's definitely an excellent EDC candidate. The action is awesomely smooth. I have two 940s - Pre-Production part serrated green handle and the October 2000 Knife Of The Month blue handle. There are other Axis Locks in my collection, but the one I carry the most is the one of the 940's, rotating them out for the 770 sometimes.

Get one - I guarantee that you will not be disappointed at all.

Have you driven up the road to Ace Hardware in Spartanburg to check and see if they have any? If nothing else you can at least handle the 940 and see how it compares to the 710/705.

Can't remember the name of the Ace store at the moment, but it is on 176 as you cut off Herron Circle and head back into town. It is about 3/4's the way down on your left. Biggest Knife store in South Carolina! Good prices too!

Well funny enough its actually Ace Hardware that I'm thinking of buying from via Ebay. Actually I haven't relocated to Greenville yet but I will be in August.

I had already sent the owner a e-mail to ask where in SC they were located. I'm thrilled to hear they are in Spartanburg. I can spend the day looking at knives then stuffing myself silly at "The Beacon"

I recently got one of these knive, and have to say that i'm impressed. The cool thing about this knie is it looks smaller than it actually is, and it opens with a profound smoothness. Buy one you will like it.
Ebay has some good prices sometimes. I think there is a blue handled 940 in the for sale forum though.

I have a pre-production 942s. Great Knife. It is my every day carry. The knife is smaller than the 710, and not as rugged, although it is plenty of knife for most tasks. It is slim and elegant, which makes it look somewhat delicate at first glance, but on closer inspection, it is a very solid and durable knife. The axis lock is awesome, the knife takes and holds a keen edge, and the handle is very comfortable. I don't think you will be dissapointed with the 940.

You'll like the 940. It is a very handy blade shape, a fine tip for delicate work and just enough belly to make it a slicer. The axis lock is great, and while you don't want to do it around the sheeple, with just a little practice you can open it as fast as any auto.

it's a beautiful knife!

A friendly looking but useful blade and a very comfortable handle, best handle found on a small knife, and it has the details that set it apart from others.

710 is a big boy, rather tactical, but i prefer the 800-803 in that size

I have a Blue 940. It is my everyday carry. (plus a medium cold steel shinobu back-up)
The Blue is not threatening as the green/black. The quality is very high. Rides well in front or rear pocket. Buy that puppy !!!!!!

Got one for my wife for Christmas, and she absolutely LOVES it! the woman has unbelievably critical tastes, especially when it comes to knives, but when she saw that one it was like love at first sight. She and I both like the knife for pretty much the same reasons already stated by others here, it's "sheeple friendly" smooth, can be opened with incredible speed, takes and keeps a heck of a good edge, completely ambidextrous. (now she wants a whole collection of the 940s inparticular) Actually, it's rather interesting to note that I've cycled through about ten EDC's since she got that one, and she's just consistently had that knife in her pocket while she was shaking her head and grinning at me. If you're disappointed by this knife, I'd really be surprised. hope yer days a good 'un!

i got one right after blade (i cant believe i had any money left in my account)

its awesome!
i couldnt deicde whether i wanted to carry it or not and decided what the hell.so i carry it.

very cool knife.

I have several and like them all.

I have a red handle, satin, plain edge. My favorite edc. And I could carry anything at 1SKS.

I too have been thinking about getting the 940. I'm very impressed with its looks and how it feels in the hand. And the highly favorable comments I've heard from most owners outweigh the few negatives I've heard.
How's Benchmade do with serrations, by the way? I was thinking of getting the combo blade but my experience with serrations is pretty much limited to Spyderco, which I think does quite a job with them.

You will not be disapointed with the 940. It's a great EDC, yet has enough blade size (3.4 in.) to do much useful work. It's slim and easy to carry in a variety of positions.

Good luck with it

Awesome knife. I actually carry a green for my beater knife. Has already seen it's share of abuse which it seems to shrug off. Smooth as butter and so much fun to flick in and out. The blue is pretty (with the exception of the pukey green backspacer), but I actually prefer the green.

I really love my green one. I have also bought a 942 but gave it away to a friend. It is a great knife for daily carry partly because even though it has a fairly long blade it is thin and light. The color makes it much less tactical too! I think you'll be well pleased with that purchase!!

Theres one for sale in the for sale area for $125.00.
Great knife.

My green 940 is my dress up and Sunday-goin-to-meetin' folder. LH pocket. In the right is usually a Microtech LCC or Spyderco Vesuvius or my Kershaw Boa.
BUT! the Osborne 940 is always in the other pocket for dress up occasions. That's the knife the public sees when something that needs to be cut gets cut. It is a classy and non-threatening gentleman's tactical type folder.
I really believe you'll be pleased with this knife as an EDC.
