Decided to post a review on my Fehrman Peacemaker.
I became a Busse guy lately and have been going after Busse’s for a while, but I missed this little knife and now am very happy to get it from a forumite who decided to part with it.

This knife is the one which to me has the most comfortable grip and one of the better frame geometry available. The cpm-3v steel is very good and IMO should be on par with other better steels around. The treatment done by Fehrman yields very tough blade and I (as I am sure many others too) would like to see a full destruction test similar to the one done on the Busse’s by knifetests.com.

Now to my particular knife. I got it from a previous owner in good used condition.
The knife is #164 which makes me believe it was made few years back. Once I got it I took care of little scratches on the blade and although it was very sharp I decided to give it few runs over my diamond Vee.

The blade is scratch free now and is really sharp. It is very easy to take care and sharpen.

Today I decided to compare it to three other knives which in some respect the Peacemaker will compete with for a place in my daily and weekend activities. The knives are:
1. Busse AD (which I use as my go to knife in my garage),
2. Busse SAR4 (which I use as a yard / camping knife) and
3. Strider SnG (hich I carry on trails and my dog walks).

Here is the AD and the Peacemaker:

The Peacemaker has a bigger blade with almost same size handle. I immediately felt that it is way more comfortable for my hands. All in all it is probably THE most comfortable little knife I ever handled. Fehrman is a better slicer too, as my AD is thicker. On a flip side I definitely would go to my AD for any job involving some heavy prying/pulling.

Next the Peacemaker is pictured with the SAR4. SAR4 is a bigger knife and perhaps should be compared to Fehrman’s Last Chance, but it is also IMO one of the better slicers in Busse’s line and has excellently executed grind which makes the blade feel thinner.

To be continued) :D

SAR4 has one of the better handle and is very comfy to me. The Peacemaker handle is somewhat similar in the geometry to SAR4 one and this is perhaps why I like it so much. It is also shorter which makes the knife faster and the back of the handle is flat which is better for pushing. The Peacemaker is smaller and lighter which makes it not as good as SAR4 for chopping. If we avoid talking about bigger Busse’s the SAR4 is the knife I love for wood work, as it seems to do every job well and always begging for more. So I decided to see what little Peacemaker is capable of doing and did some chopping, splitting etc.

All in all the Fehrman did the job with no issues and the blade did not show any visible marks and/or lost of the edge.

To test it I decided to have it gone through “tomato test” with the soft tomato. It proved to be as sharp as it was before the wood work. I expected this from the steel and it is no surprise to me.

Next I compared the Peacemaker to my Strider SnG.

The handle is about same length as Strider’s one, but the blade is distinctly bigger. SnG is one tough folder and I have no issues relying on the knife in almost anything. At the same time it is nice to have an option to go to the Peacemaker for something which would require tougher steel in which the Peacemaker excels.

All in all after a day of playing with the Peacemaker I am very happy with it. It is one of the better knives around and seems to be an optimal design for smaller blade. Comparing to the other three, it now has it’s own room in my life and I am sure will never fail me. :)

Fehrman undoubtedly does excellent job :thumbup::thumbup: and I am interested in Last Chance now. I am wondering how it will compare to my BATAC and SAR4. :):):)

in your last picture, what is the hole in the handle for? between the two screws. :) pretty sweet looking knife!

nice review, thx for posting.

always liked the look of these, may have to give one a try.

Gress!

Thanks very much for posting that informative review!!! The pics are great - just what I've been looking for the past couple of weeks.

Here's a link to a review by a fella who really likes HIS Last Chance...

Thanks. I also watched this one

which is direct comparison with SAR4. However, I'd like to see it compared to BATAC LE

as LC seems to be a "bigger" knife than SAR4.

Great review, thanks. This is THE knife from Fehrman's inventory.

About the Fehrman LC, I find it an awesome blade: great balance, extremely tough steel with unusually good edge retention, even better than my Busse SAR4. But it is a bit heavy for a knife of that size (5.5 inch) and too bulky as well. So basically, although I am really liking the knife, I seldom use it anymore.

Great reading and excellent pics! I used to have Fehrman Peacemaker. It's a great blade with very good ergonomy. That is the blad I regret selling the most. Now I more and more often think of buying it again.

I have one and love it
Has Oversized handles and no Fire Bow

Very nice pics, William! I have never seen this flavor of the PM with larger handles. Looks awesome.
Thank you for the size comparison too.

And I seldom use my BATAC LE (.27" thick) too. :) This is why I am interested in the comparison between the two. :)

Wow, bearcut, thanks! Great review. This is exactly what I was looking for. It is interesting read and if you still have those two blades, I'd appreciate a pic for the size comparison. :) Are the handles on LC bigger and the grip is fuller comparing to BATAC?
From my little line of Busse knives I like the grip of SAR4 the best with the second close being ASH-1 and then BATAC and AD. So I am wondering how LC would compare. Not sure (by watching the youtube vid on the Fehrman LC) if I will like the extra choil on the handles. Anyway, thank you for referring me to your thread!

I tried to use my BATAC LE for all kinds of tasks too, but it was too fat/thick for kitchen duties, too heavy for EDC/survival use, too ugly to display as a safe queen and I don't like the handle - it is just not comfortable. Why not selling it? I find INFI more than irresitible:D.

But when comparing the BATAC LE to Fehrman LC. LC has my vote. I find the CPM 3V a bit better in edge retention and the handle is great with great balance on the knife too. Then again, BATAC LE is one of my 'lesser' Busses.
