Hi guys.

I got a Fenix L2P a while ago. Well I got 2 if them, one of them was stolen with my schoolbag and the other... I have no idea where it is. It was supposed to be in my schoolbag but it's not there anymore. Lost or stolen I don't know. Also I just moved and did not found it.

Anyway.

That model is now discontinued.

I liked the model, the feeling and the price (more than a maglight but less than a lot of things, and you can use normal batteries).

I also still have the adapter to turn the L2P in a L1P.

I would like to have your opinion about wich one to choose between the L2T and the L2D to replace my L2P.

Thanks
Marco

I only see L2D on fenix website, what's L2T?

Personally I have P3D and like it.

The Fenix L2T v2.0 RB80 ($47.95 shipped) is probably the closest to the L2P you have with High and low levels (by twist - loosening or tightening the head) - with several improvements - more efficient and higher output LumiLEDs Rebel 80 LED, forward ("tactical") clicky switch. It is cheaper than any of the L2D(xx) versions.

If you want the L2D for its multiple levels, SOS and strobe functions - then one of the newer Rebel editons are slightly better in beam smoothness and probably tint than the Cree edition.

Fenix Digital L2D RB80 Black ($56.50)

Fenix Digital L2D RB100 Black Premium 100 ($62.50)

Fenix Digital L2D CE Black Textured ($56.50)

Note: the "D" series have reverse clicky switches - these work better for switching levels/modes.

Please see my review for an explanation -

(the head is the same for the L1T/L2T - but the L1T v2 has lower maximum output because it uses only a single AA battery, except 3.7V Li-Ion rechargeable 14500 - however the relative performances between the L1Tv2 and the L1Dce and original L1T are going to be similar as between the L2Tv2, L2Dce and original L2T)

I don't think I'll go for a rebel. My choice is really between the L2D CE and the L2T. (found a great deal but can't say where, sorry). I'm not a LEO or a paramedic. I'm just average joe that can't see in the dark.

I read a few of your reviews Vincent. Thanks for that.

No problem - in which case this might help -

as it has a direct comparison between the L2Dce and the (original Luxeon III) L2T.

Yeah I saw those, but I must admit I would be too noob in flashlights to see a difference on the field.

So in a more basic fashion, should I go with the L2D for 5$ more?

Oh, I was looking at fenix store and didn't spot L2T because I didn't think people would still buy 3w luxeon with all the better ones out. :p

I'd spend $5 more and get L2D CE for sure, brighter and more efficient (go by factory number).

Is the deal you found local, or mail order?

is that Canadian $5, or US$5? :p

You kidding me?

Of course go for the L2Dce....
on low it has a much longer runtime and it is noticably brighter on max -
unless you actually want a simpler flashlight with only 2 levels, and lower maximum output.

Unless, of course the L2T was -(minus) $5 and the L2Dce was $0....

in which case I'd take 12 of each....

It's a kind of "today only" offer. Sorry but the seller asked me not reveal who he is and I gave him my word.

Yes the L2D is only 5$ more than the L2T. Canadian or American? Doesn't really matters these days. Actually while I write these words, 1.00 CAD= 1.00038 USD.

So are there any other differences between those models than the output and the levels? Are the levels easy to change? Is the switch exactly the same on both models?

Yes I answer fast, I have no life these days :p

On L2D it's very easy to change mode, a light push is all you need. But personally I find the SOS mode (and strobe to a lesser degree) is quite useless, and a bit annoying to take up a place in light switch cycle.

I went for it. Just ordered a L2D CE :)

Since I still have the 1 battery adapter, I got an extra holster too.

Thanks for your help guys.

Any idea how a P2D compared to a Surefire E1L or a L1? Thanks.

A Fenix P2Dce-Q2 is noticably brighter than the SureFire E1L or even the L1 -

SureFire E1L = 30 lumens
SureFire L1 LumaMax = 65 lumens
Fenix P2D-CE = 135 lumens
Fenix P2D-RB80 = 140 lumens
Fenix P2D-RB100 = 175 lumens

The Fenix P2Dce is much brighter than the typical Xenon 2x CR123A light like the SureFire 6P and G2, and the Streamlight Scorpion (~65 lumens) - and even rivals the legendary 3x CR123 SureFire 9P (105 lumens)-

For these beamshots I've removed/desaturated the colors (leaving only the luminance information) to make them more directly comparable -

A word to the wise, I have been following UnknownVT's (Vincent) threads both here and on another forum.... Follow his advise and you will not be led astray. This is a guy who REALLY knows his stuff! I'm just a user but have learned quite a bit from his threads and reviews. Just thought I'd take a second out of my work day to give him props he so deserves. Two thumbs up, Vincent. tip of the cap. ;)

Many thanks for the very kind words.

I enjoy flashlights - and "play" around with them.

I don't have any specialized equipment - so I try to show a visual comparison - ie: what the light look like side-by-side when compared to similar and known lights.

Shining flashlights on blank white walls is often open to criticism - that they don't resemble "real life" usage -
so much so that a humorous (and perhaps derogatory) term has been coined "white wall hunter".

But a blank white wall does reveal the beam characteristics - and when two beams are set side-by-side any differences can then be seen.

Once in a while I would also do my "practical" stairway beam shot to show somewhat more realistically how a light performs.

But even that is fraught with problems - what happens when the lights have very different colors or tints?

I solved that problem by deSaturating the photo of all its colors to leave only the luminance information......

Ah, but why not just take a black & white photo to begin with? Photos are "panchromatic" - that simulates what the eye might see for colors - so it is biassed to show certain colors as brighter and others darker - which is NOT what is wanted. Hence removing the color information only by reducing saturation is the correct way to leave only the luminance/brightness information.......

There, probably much more than anyone wanted to know -
but to show almost anyone can do this stuff :p
