New to me. I just did a Google search and Amazon has them (the knives, not the blades) for sale. Looks like a bandsaw with a wooden back and handle. Looks like it would work.

Hey Joe, my dad used to make them (lots of them) but called em something different, can remember.

Don,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. I saw these knives in Seattle several weeks ago. I have access to lots of red oak cabinet scrap and wanted to make these bread knives for sale on ebaY. I can find the knives online BUT haven't found a source for the blades. The blade is VERY similar to a hacksaw blade with a scalloped edge. You said your dad made these...please search your memory banks! Thanks for your help

I know the knives you are talking about. They are awkward to use.

I believe the purpose is to have an even slice.

Here is one with an adjustable back to regulate the slicing thickness:

I have seen smaller ones described as cheese knives. The ones I have seen did not slice very well.

Neat looking knives. I'd say they're the greatest thing since...well, something.

The ones I have seen and used were not so great. They were not sharp. They squished the bread rather than slicing. If you did in fact try to use the bow as a guide you got a tremendously thick slice. They are not made for left handed use...

If you can improve on them with better slicing ability you might have something.

I'm pretty sure my dad bought a roll of the scalloped edge blade material from a band saw supply place called 'Timber Wolf'. He cut it to length, drilled a hole in each end and attached with brass screws. He made hundreds of them and sold them to a store in Lebanon Missouri. These worked really well as this blade stock was very sharp. Any dull bread knife will not slice bread ;)

Hope this helps.

I agree with DrThunder... They look like the greatest thing since just before sliced bread. My folks have one... sorry I can't help you with a wholesale hook-up.

I know Ray,they will make a mini portable bandsaw that slices bread real nice:D

Someone should have made one of those with the adjustable thickness for that old thread about making something to slice the crust off of toast:D:D
