After my last debacle with the T-88 epoxy 50ml epoxy cartridges I started looking into empty ones. You can find them rather cheep at just over a buck a piece. My thought is buy the T88 in bulk bottles for much less then there cartridges. I would then fill the empty cartridges as needed. I really love the cartridges and the mixing tips. Last night for exzample I was assembling a seax with a few different stacked spacers. After the tip was primed and mixing I just used the tip to paint the epoxy on each part as it was stacked. Then I put the tip into the tang hole and filled it up. Then used the tip agian to paint the tang of the blade and in it went. It's super simple and puts epoxy where I need and the amount I need with no worys about not mixing enough. I love how I can just inject mixed epoxy into small holes and know it's full and mixed.

So after all that rambling has anyone tryied to fill these empty 50ml 1:1 double barrel epoxy cartridges befor? The plugs are not installed and I would think you could fill from the back then put the plug in. Or put the plug in and fill from the front. My concern is the trapped air when filling from the back. Thanks guys

Of course , especially because I get a epoxy free in the bottles ;) But use this way only when I need more epoxy at once .I don t want to waste mixing tips for four drop of epoxy .. . ..
I filling cartridge from the back , slowly and epoxy little warm .Just be careful not to change sides on cartridge when you filling ...

PS. Best thing about this way is that I never waste epoxy / when do hidden tang for example / Mixing approximately epoxy always ends in two possible way .I waste half of mixed epoxy or not mixed enough :D

you fill them from the back but what about the air gap between the plunger and epoxy?

I use two big syringe for filling cartridge . . . epoxy /warm is key/ slowly to flow on one side of catridge /catridge on oblique angle / almost no air drops ....I can t explain better .......my english is broken

Can't you just fill them without worrying about it, put the plunger in and then invert to let the air gap flow up to the top? I'd imagine warming them would speed this process....

If you read the tech info, you can get the weight ratios for mixing.

Cheap electronic scales means perfect fast simple ratios.

Thats what i do, i use the 16 ounce gflex bottles and then estimate how much i need for the days glue up, get the gram/ounce scale out and if im aiming for 10 grams, 20 grams, an ounce etc, i weigh half first, then add 2nd part and presto near perfect results with zero need for disposablea beyond scrap cardboard and a popsicle stick. But honestly, eye balling works pretty darn well too. I know many a maker whose knives are well known for durability who just eye ball it. Me im kinda anal, so i weigh. And yeah heat it up, never a problem getting it into small spaces or dealing with sor bubbles if its over 80f or so

Both sides must be equally filled to get accurately mix of epoxy . . . .

But just like with a factory filled cartarge squeeze it out till it comes out both sides evenly.
