Greetings all, I want to toot the Filson horn yet again. I recently received my new Filson tin-cloth Cruiser vest. (delayed X-mas present) This vest is incredible! Of course, it has filson's legendary toughness and quality. Where it differs from their wool vests (which is an essential piece in my wardrobe) is that it has more pockets. There are two snap closure pockets on the inside of the vest, and they are quite large. I'm thinking these are nice places to clip a large folder, or a boot-sheath type knife, or even conceal carry a small to medium pistol. I know there are pocket sheathes available for handguns that would probably work here. There is also a full width pocket on the back of the vest, ala "game-bag" type of pocket. I would not put freshly killed game back there as it is not a lined pocket. It is a handy pocket to have though... I use the similar pocket on my Filson wool cruiser coat to store a spare gaiter or hat etc. This vest is also just long enough to cover a horizontal sheath knife on the belt so you don't scare the sheeple. Yeah, it probably would be considered "concealed" carry though.:grumpy: All in all, a very nice and versatile garment. You can find this and other great stuff at: www.filson.com

Mongo, how breatheable are those tin-cloth garments? I'm attracted to Filson's toughness but I live in LA so I need clothes that breathe ok.

SteelDriver, that one is a hard one for me to answer... I am a "sweaty Swede". The wool garments breathe nicely... the tin-cloth, shelter-cloth, cover-cloth, and even the safari cloth all will make me sweat with exertion... then again, I'm a sweaty swede. I still like them above anything else.

Mongo,

I just picked up the Double Mackinaw Cruiser in charcoal from an order I placed locally.

2 layers of 24 oz 100% virgin wool, with pockets everywhere. It's an incredible coat, and it feels like it weighs about 15 lbs!

Komondor, you will absolutely LOVE your double mac. I have the same coat in the red/black Floyd R. Turbo version. People are always amazed when they pick that coat up and feel how substantial it is. The charcoal is a very nice color too... almost dressy. My only gripe is that I have to wait until it is about 20 degrees F or lower before I can wear it... otherwise it is too warm for me!
