Does this count?...so its a Barbers' Straight Razor...nearly as scarce to find...Tang Stamped: Schrade Cutlery Co Walden N.Y. with reverse stamp:Germany....<no pattern number as Schrade Cutlery Co Walden N.Y. gave each razor that they actually produced a bit later on.
Appearantly this is one of the few models made in Germany for Schrade and sold under their Schrade Cutlery Co tang. Its likely to be manufactured circa 1904 Schrade era as appearantly razor cutlers were considered the elite of their trade and the most skilled/experienced of the knife cutlery craftsman and in the early years <early 1900's> those experienced cutlers were still in Germany..as WW1 loomed as likely, appearantly it was no longer a sound or popular business decision to continue with the Germany stamping....either way this Germany stamped Schrade is likely to be over 100 years old....
this example has the ornate/ fancy celluloid handles popular in that era..with Cherubs on both handle sides......it also has the 'square point' blade not only good for cutting beards and mutton chops but also notorious for slicing ear lobes and noses according to Jim Sargent in Sargents 2nd Edition.
The other Schrade Cut Co Walden N.Y. Straight Razor example is model Number 155-S with matching box. Green lucite? celluloid? handles with 'Everlastingly Sharp' gold blade etch.
Features the 'Round Point' blade for general use also called the "safety point" as it was gentler around the ears and nose.....!
I have found it difficult to find out any info on Schrade Cut Co manufacturing razors 'in house' and Schrade rarely gets a mention among the established razor manufacturers of that period to WW1 to WW11....its similar to the Schrade Cut Co Fixed blades..little info..which we have now positively identified as made by Kinfolks for Schrade Cutlery Co..<.I have 3 examples of those knives>...
I have observed the following Schrade Cut Co Razor Numbers so far on past Fleabay sales.... 151S,152R,155S,155R,156S..
The other Straight Razor example shown is stamped : No K 739 Reverse Tang Stamp: Simmons Hdwe Co Germany 'F'.....In its original box its 'Keen Kutter' Simmons Hdwe.Co. U.S.A. Goins tells me this stamping was used C1890-1940. Blade etch KEEN KUTTER FINEST HOLLOW GROUND......also has the ear cutting nose slicing 'Square Point Blade'......all 3 razors blades are 'scary sharp' as you would expect....
I have the original Keen Kutter Leather Strop as well which I cant find among my knife boxes at the moment....
Has any other Forum members got some Schrade Cut Co razors to show?...Hoo Roo
