Finding soft firebrick

So I am ready to try to build a one or two brick forge but I cannot find a supplier of the soft refractory bricks. I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, a nice industrial town, but the only companies that sell refractory bricks sell them by the hundreds to furnace makers or rebuilders. Is there some other search term I need or some other type of business I need to look for?

Thanks!

Look for ceramic or pottery supply companies. They use soft firebrick to reline kilns, and sell bricks as replacement pieces.

You've answered your own question. The big suppliers don't want to deal with us little fish, but the installer/repair places are usually happy to help out. I get all my refractory stuff from a boiler repair company here in Columbus.

Don't be afraid to inquire about open bags of castable or broken/used bricks.

I found the cheapest prices on eBay. I got a couple dozen for around $4.50 each shipped. Local pottery supply wanted like $6.50.

If anyone knows a local supplier in KCMO, I would be appreciative of the info.

The best I can find is ordering the 6 pack of 1-1/4" pieces from Ace or HD.

What is KCMO ?

Following those links just four posts above yours, would take you to the manufacturer
part numbers and their distributor locator page

Send them an email and ask for a local stocking distributor.

We have a supplier here in my town called Industrial Firebrick Corp. iIt runs about $3-$4/brick. You might contact them to see if they can ship it. Being it's slightly soft/fragile I'm not sure how they go about it. Their number is 616-363-0807.

Hope this helps!

I also live in the Cincinnati area and I called around 20 local companies with no good results. I bought firebrick from a building supply place here but it wasn't k23 (that is vital) as the firebrick I had was not insulating firebrick. Order online and buy a few because they're soft and will occasionally break.
I used clay-king.com. It shipped fast and was packaged very well.

Here is a company in Cleveland, I did get some fire bricks and ceramic insulation from them , but I actually wwent there. They make soft and hard firebricks 23k and 3k soft. Give them a call.
